Tell me about it. Today I have a two hour lesson and over an hour was spent just going up and down the strings to try to improve intonation. I hurt like crazy after, but it was great. Every time I was a millimetre out she just said 'stop...go back...try again'. What a difference after though, just playing a very simple tune was so different.

Like you I just can't wait to move on a bit. It's great though isn't it. I was playing the South Bank theme today which was fun.

Have you heard Aaron Minsky's Etudes? There are videos of him playing them on Youtube. I received the ten American cello etudes book in the post earlier in the week and they are great fun to play - if a little difficult in places.

Both, I expect. Hopefully he'll go for the saxophone first though - that'll blunt the axe a bit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

My favourite cello piece is probably the Faure Elegie, because it's simply GORGEOUS. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) I've always wanted to play it, and I'm not too far off it now. There's a book edited by Julian Lloyd Webber called 'The Great Cello Solos' which has this and various other beautiful cello pieces (like a Mendelssohn Song Without Words, which is sublime). The other essential is the Bach Cello Suites, which are just a compendium of genius.

Can you tell I get pretty excited about cello music!?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
