The Oberthur on the A list is nice but you need a secure top G.

The Poulenc is beautiful if you like that kind of thing. I think I have a copy of the Hindemith somewhere as well, but I've never played it!

Mmmm, I really did like that, and it's rather different to the stuff I usually go for. One to add to the list thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'll second the Poulenc but the Sonata is on the Grade 8 list rather than Grade 7. If your looking on YouTube, try to find Ben Westlake's version of the Poulenc - very well executed and much faster than I'll ever manage!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

How about Pierne's Canzonetta? It's not on ABRSM list but is on one of the other boards.... it's a delightful little piece. I must try that sometime myself.

The Hurlstone pieces are nice, I love the Philip Sparke but think the first movement is hard for grade 7, however the slow movement is lovely

I'm pretty sure I've asked this before but does anyone know roughly what grade the Mendelssohn clarinet sonata is? The Andante is on grade 5 list but the rest doesn't seem to be on any of the lists. Would like to have a go at the rest of it and the two Weber works in the Masterworks book.

Ask your teacher about having a go.
I had my first go at the first movement not too long after my grade 5 exam if I remember correctly.
I've worked on it again fairly recently (almost 12 months after grade 6) and managed to do more with it.
It's once again put aside as I think I'd done about as much as I'm able at this point.
