I have just heard that my adult student has passed her grade 1 and I am thrilled for her. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/woot.gif)
Normally my teaching is confined to young students, but last year the mum of a boy who was starting lessons at school asked to sign up, to see exactly what would be required of him, and to learn to play the piano for her own pleasure, too. After convincing the Bursar to let her learn on the premises, she started at the same time as her son, coming along while the school students were in assembly. I really enjoy the lessons with Mrs G, we have a laugh, work hard, and I have made a good friend along the way. The words from the King and I "If you become a teacher, by your pupils you'll be taught" are, in this case, so true; I have learned so much from working with this lovely lady, and I hope she will continue to develop her musical interests for many years to come. So from a very proud teacher, a huge "Congratulations" to Mrs G, even if she doesn't know I'm boasting about her here!! |

Congratulations to both of you - isn't it thrilling? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I love teaching adults - they usually make up about a third of my pupils. I've taught several mums and dads of my pupils - recently progressing to teaching a grandparent! Mind you, I am quite shameless about touting for adult pupils. I always suggest to the parents that they might like to learn too, or brush up their skills if they can already play. The kids react with great excitement to the idea - which encourages the parent to have a go. |
