Having exhausted everything suitable in our local music shop, can anyone recommend a good music shop for violin sheet music in London or the south east? I don't really like buying online; we like to have a browse through the actual books before we buy.

Any recommendations for a shop with a good selection?

Yeah, Im not in London much but Chappells is where I aim for. Trouble is when Im in there I spend ?50-?100 every time !. I used to like Booseys in N. Regent St until they closed. Brittains in Wigmore St which took over is pretty poor. Is Cramers still there in Charing Cross Rd ?

Last time I was in Chappells though I wanted to look at Violin cases. They only had one very cheap on in stock ! Have since ordered Mrs. a Gewa case for Vernon Violins in Manchester. I was also surprised that almost all their pianos are Yamaha.

Top floor of Foyles is my favourite - maybe not as much choice as Chappells but feels a bit less corporate!

well.....Foyles and Chappells are just round the corner from each other so one can do both, why not? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

To add to those two, I also find the Schott Shop and Argents helpful. Between the four of them I feel spoilt for choice when browsing for new music! There's only a 10 minute walk between them all.

Foyles may not have quite so much music to choose from, but they do have a heck of a lot of books. Very dangerous shop for me to go in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Chappells are a main Yamaha dealer, that's why.
I like their sheetmusic section (nice cosy basement) but usually spend far too much in there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The staff are really knowledgeable and helpful too.

This may be why I play a Yamaha violin! I do like their sheet music range but prefer Argents as I think the choice is bigger.

Am jealous! I was going to go and do my 'summer holiday sheet music spend' the week the trouble broke out in London. I'm not sure I'm going to have time now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'd be bankrupt within a week - I can't even let myself on the website. Last night I went onto it looking for something in particular, found it, then half an hour later realised my basket was about 100 pounds from 'browsing'...had to delete it all and go to bed quick (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
