I (perhaps foolishly) agreed to translate an article by a fellow member of my wind band on free jazz. I don't particularly like free jazz, haven't read much about it and am now wondering about how to translate some of the recurrent terms.

It is about how and why free jazz developped (so not a musical analysis) and uses "co-operatives", "corporations" and "collectives" as generic terms to designate free jazz groups (such as the Experimental Band, Jazz Comoser's Guild, Black Artists Group). Can I use these terms in English?

And a second question, would you talk about the groups of musicians coming together to develop a "musical aesthetics"?

Thanks

Have spoken to jazz graduate son as you weren't getting any replies! He says they certainly talk about jazz collectives and musical aesthetics in jazz, but 'co-operatives' and 'corporations' would be odd terms to use.
