Dear all,

I am stuck for a psalm chant - I know the first notes, but am struggling to recall the composer or find the music!

The chant, to psalm 121, begins: C, F, G Bb, A, G, F, G, A

Can anybody assist? This is irritating me!

Thanks,
Tosher

I think you'll find that the notes are actually a fourth higher and that it's a chant by Herbert Howells in B flat. I've heard it to many different psalms, but it wouldn't be my first choice for Ps 121.

Howells in Bb (starting on F)?

Thanks for the quick replies - being cheeky, does anybody know where I can find the music online?

I doubt you'll find it online because it's still in copyright.

It's published in the RSCM chantbook (also in the New St Paul's Cathedral Psalter and the Lincoln Psalter).

Nor mine. There's Walford Davies or Barry Rose.

I know it's not a chant, but - at the risk of appearing very stupid amongst you proper organists - you're not thinking of the hymn "I Lift My Eyes" are you? (no 281 in Mission Praise"). It's in F so the notes you gave are correct. It may be based on Howells in Bb for all know)
