Hi :-)
I'm busy with the rather challenging process of choosing dip piano repertoire (ATCL), keep randomly printing music, trying stuff out and rejecting! Have decided on Scarlatti (k259+260), and the Ravel Pavane. Need a sonata to fill up the time! But... I'll be staying in quite a rural area for a few months next year, without a teacher, so don't want to take on a complete sonata. Would it be a good idea to submit the sonata I played for grade 8 (but all three movements), since I like it a lot and played it well in the exam..... this is very lazy, I know - but I will tackle something new and much more challenging when I'm near a teacher again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

You cannot submit anything for diploma that appears on any other list - grade or certificates, so would not be able to play the item you played for grade 8.

Whilst that is generally true, they may well accept a whole sonata if only one movement was played for Grade 8. They certainly do for flute. |

after reading up, it seems as though I could technically do it (did ABRSM gr. 8, want to do ATCL; and would submit the whole sonata), I talked myself out of it - now to find a sonata I like enough to learn... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Hi sam1,
I'm also planning to take ATCL soon. One piece of advice: if you decide to go for a Sonata that isn't on the ATCL syllabus, then make sure you submit the whole programme to them quite early on. I spent a year learning a Beethoven sonata that was on the ABRSM list, but Trinity rejected it! Am now having to learn a Mozart sonata instead. At least they are quite quick in replying now.
