My two seem to KNOW when to show off - during one student's lesson this afternoon they decided to drape themselves on top of each other and sleep the sleep of the just in this oh-so-adorable position - then tonight they decided to play Silly B*ggers with each other and go absolutely MAD while I was teaching my group.

Aaaah!!!

Love them though...

So glad you are enjoying them Cyrilla. They are obviously getting you well trained!

Theo is a little livelier this morning and at the moment is sitting on the keyboard of my piano washing himself. I really ought to suggest that he does his toilette elsewhere but I haven't the heart.

Back again - though perhaps this ought to be in the Happy Thread because my order for the three Simon Cat books and the CD Songs of the Cat arrived today so I am very chuffed; I have hidden them from my partner as they are for Christmas stocking fillers.

Theo had his stitches out yesterday. Te vet was then able to examine him more thoroughly and says that the fact that his back legs don't work properly is due to an old injury. He has a broken bone that was never properly set - his previous owner didn't take him to the vet - but as she didn't feed him either that isn't suprising. The vet says the broken bone could have been the result of a fall but is far more likey to have been a car accident - in which case Theo is lucky to be alive. He has now reached his correct weight and when he is a little better we will ask the vet if anything can be done about the fracture. The vet says it is nolonger painful but will affect his other side as he tries to compensate. I am wondering if they could re-set it - though the operation would probably cost a mint.

Glad to hear Theo is on the mend for now, although its so sad about his long-standing injuries, good thing he has you now to take care of him!

Where did you find "songs of the cat" cd - they sound really funny but I can't find it?

My CD and Simon's Cat book (no. 3, In Kitten Chaos (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ) have arrived safely too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Theo is obviously a survivor - I hope he continues to improve and that the old injury doesn't cause him too much bother.

Thank you! I saw it somewhere else and got the impression it was words only, but Amazon makes it clear that it has the songs as well. Looks great! Thanks again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Timed Pet Feeder

Bought one of these (same thing, different color and sold under different brand name), BUT it took the more energetic of my two active young cats a mere 10 minutes to force it open with teeth and claws. Once they could smell food in there, NOTHING was going to stop them...

Does anybody know of any pet feeder/dispenser that really will keep food secure until a predetermined time?

We have two, and they both work ok for us, but Rosie is quite elderlly and it's probably not a great test.

I will try to find the names anyway. One is rectangular, with two separate compartments, and is the one our pett-sitter recommends. The other appears much more solid, is circular and yellow and black, and you can record your version of ' here kittykittykitty' or whatever which plays when the next compartment opens. It's rather fun but more complicated to operate.

(ed - just remembered your link and clicked on it - *shakes head in disbelief* (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) the other one we have is a Cat-mate and doesn't appear quite as sturdy.)

One of our cats was so good at breaking into the battery powered one we had before, she had eaten half the food in it before we had left the house!
None of our cats have managed to break into this type http://www.staywell.co.uk/Intl/UK/Products...ated-Pet-Feeder
Unfortunately it doesn't have freezer blocks so you can only use it for one or two days and the cats have to be around when the food is exposed. Not ideal, but more cat-proof than most.

Just an afterthough, all ears - OH reckons that the Cat-Mate feeder is actually stronger than the round one - different kind of plastic, he thinks.

That's interesting, because we had one of those for years and it did have a freezer block - and it was just the right size to fit into a (human) lunch box as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Unfortunately our current cats found that it would dispense the food more quickly if they knocked it from the work surface on to the floor - they have to be fed up high because of the dog - and it stopped working soon afterwards. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Last time we left them we tried this, which although it isn't timed, seemed to work well enough. We only give them Science Diet dried food, so there weren't any issues with the food going off.

I've got good enough at noticing the signs of impending vomiting that i can now slide a newspaper in front of the cat to neatly catch it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ill.gif)

Yes - we manage it too sometimes. Rosie makes a noise that I can only describe as
'wollawollawolla'.
