hello viola people (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Does anybody have a copy of 'L'alto Classique', volumes B and/or C, that they no longer use and would like to sell to a devoted home? It costs ?26 ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) )to buy new so I thought I'd see if anybody would like to recycle a second-hand copy for a mutually agreeable price. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) There are really only about 3 pieces in it I'd like so ?26 is a lot for just a few months use!! .... or any other viola music you no longer need.... Just in case no one comes up with a second-hand copy...
Have you tried looking on ebay France? Or order it off Amazon.fr - it is new for just over 17 euros but they also have a cheaper second-hand copy. (I just looked because I have just bought "le hautbois classique vol C" for my daughter and I definitely didn't pay 26 pounds for it! Actually I quite like these books aesthetically. They are very nicely printed on attractive, thick cream paper. I can't comment on the alto pieces but the oboe ones are an interesting selection and some of the C ones are quite challenging. |

Thank you for your help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Unfortunately Amazon won't let me order the second hand copy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) My 'school' French is rubbish ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) ) but I think it only ships to French addresses and I don't know anyone in France just now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Ebay-France is a great idea although they don't have it just now. I'll keep an eye on it though. The volume B is a great book with, as you say, a really interesting selection that will challenge me for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing the C volume too... for the future (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (and maybe get some French lessons (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ) |

Hi Lottie,
unfortunately my copy of Vol C is being very well used by me at the moment. It is something that I have kept coming back to over a number of years. I've certainly had good value for money from it. Perhaps this is because I am progressing slowly at this stage (will probably take in total 5 years to move from Grade 5 to Grade 7!) but I have used more of the book than I intially thought I would. I'm loving kerioboe's suggestion of ordering music via French Amazon. Will need to look into that, as I have my eye on some more expensive French viola music and this might come in handy. Excellent tip! Lis |

For the second-hand copy, you probably need to ask the seller to "unblock" an option so that it can be posted abroad. I have just sent you a PM about it. I'm loving kerioboe's suggestion of ordering music via French Amazon. Will need to look into that, as I have my eye on some more expensive French viola music and this might come in handy. Excellent tip! Unfortunately a lot of French music is really expensive but still ought to be marginally cheaper if actually bought in France. |

It's coming up 11 Euros on Woodbrass.com, and they have a button to put the site into English. Not sure how they charge for postage, but it would have to be pretty unreasonable to make it more expensive than 26GBP.
I keep all my old music in case it's useful for teaching purposes, and I'm playing from alto classique just now for my grade 6 demos for the Dip so I can't part with my copy I'm afraid. This is where viola music really becomes expensive, if you want to take grade exams you need minimally 3 books, usually brand new, usually horribly dear. Compared to going out and buying the violin/piano exams in a single album it's really dear, you can spend ?70 getting the music together. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

I can't seem to find it on their website - found the same volume for every instrument from trumpet to piano but I can't find the l'alto (viola) version! Even with postage this sounds like the cheapest yet |
