My son's violinist girlfriend would like copy of this for Christmas. However, looking in Musicroom, I notice a copy they have that has a different ending. Does anyone know who publishes the original please?

I don't know anything about different endings, but there is no need to buy a copy from musicroom ... it is available for free download from IMSLP:

Doesn't work quite so well as a Christmas present if you download it free though.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Could you give us a link to the version with the different ending? (My hunch is that maybe the original opera version doesn't end in a way suitable for concert performance, and so was altered to give us the familiar violin solo.)

Both the original score and arrangements for various instruments (solo or in combination), are available for comparison on the IMSLP site.

You're asking a technophobe for a link?!

(Sorry!) I think it's the Peters edition. Looking at the customer feedback, it seems that they have made changes to the ending. But I think I have tracked down a copy like the one I used to have and appear to have mislaid, and that has the original ending.

No, a free download wouldn't look quite so impressive under the Christmas tree! And I think we'd like to make a good impression as we have never met this particular girlfriend before, and she is coming to stay! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/eek.gif)

True enough, but you could buy her a different gift of something that is not available as a free download.

Thanks for that, Mad Tom - missed your post before as I was posting myself. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't know whether it might be of relevance, this is the one recommended in the Grade 7 syllabus.

Isn't there a Nicola Benedetti CD which includes a "music-minus-one" version of this? You could add it to the download - in fact there may be a link on the CD.
