I am deciding whether or not to apply. Can someone describe their experiences on it and say what it did for them?

EXCITED, EXCITED, EXCITED.

Thank for flagging this up, bevpiano. I've just spent some time on the website selecting the teachers I would like to have next year. Disappointed that Margaret Murray MacLeod and Penelope Roskell will not be there but have chosen Kathryn Page, Susan Bettany and Joan Havill (who I do not know but like her profile).

Look forward to seeing you there in the future, Pixie*Porsche. It really is piano heaven.

Joan Havill took the Adult Amateur workshops in 2010 - when Kathryn was ill. I thought you were at chets then weren't you?

Was it definitely Joan Havill (I don't know as I'm not in adult amateurs). Someone told me it was Joan Havill, but when I later remarked on it, one of the adults said, "oh no, it wasn't Joan Havill, it was Joan somebody else", but I never found out the truth of the matter.

I observed several of Joan Havill's lessons in 2010. They were amazing, I was fascinated and I learnt a lot from them...but I was glad to be sitting on the sofa rather than 'in the hotseat'! I think she's excellent so I wouldn't want to put anyone off having lessons with her if they have the opportunity, but be brave! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Quite honestly, I think it's rare for anyone to be given Joan Havill, apart from conservatoire students or Chet's pupils. I remember once she had an adult & people were remarking on it as very unusual. I put her down once, but didn't get her, although I didn't mind as I had some amazing teachers.

I was at Chet's in 2010 but crammed in so many extras such as improvisation, Alexander technique and Dalcroze and was planning to attend a workshop or two but ended up spending an afternoon at the hospital. That happened to be my busiest afternoon for lessons, and so by the time Kathryn kindly rescheduled them for me I never did get around to attending an adult's workshop but did observe a children's workshop.

Thanks for the info, Rosie91. I definitely would not like to be in that kind of hot seat, and so I think I might choose Jonathan Middleton instead. I am now only going for the second week.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Mrs is not to keen on me spending a whole week at Chets. Even though its only an hours drive away. It would do me the world of good to have some lessons as my last one was in 1965.
Hope I can talk her round to it.

I have never been before, have been weighing up Chets vs Ambialet.

If I decide on Chets, what would be my chances of getting some time with Noriko Ogawa?

Joan Havill! Go the Kiwis! Many top Kiwi pianists seem to have ventured to Guildhall at some stage to study under her.

No idea, and this may be stating the obvious but your chances will almost certainly be higher if you say you want to do a workshop/masterclass. If observing her teaching counts, that's definitely possible.

Edit: I think also if you book more than the standard 3 hours of private lessons then they often don't give you all of them with the same person - don't know if that's standard or because people request it especially, but maybe if Noriko Ogawa's schedule is too full for 3 hours they might be able to give you a single hour with her.

Invidia, if you sign up for the "piano course" rather than the "adult amateur course", on the form there is a section where you can list up to four teachers you would like to study with (in alphabetical order). Although on the adult amateur course this year, I did fill in that section and was very, very lucky to get my choices, but of course that is no guarantee ...

I have just printed the form and will be applying for week 2.
