Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has taken two copies of an exam book in to an exam to avoid a tricky page turn. The Flood in Grade 5 has caused a few problems for my student with page turning and I know they don't lose marks if they have difficulty with turns but just wondered if this was an option.

Thanks

PS I know the stand may not be big enough so she would have to use one copy if this was the case but just trying to cover all options

As I understand it you can photocopy a page to avoid a page turn.

Yes, this is the case. I've had quite a few pupils who've done it.

I had a violin pupil borrow my copy of the Brahms Scherzo once, to avoid turns - four pages with no suitable break. But we forgot about bringing a spare music stand, so the steward had to hurry over to the practice room to borrow that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

None of mine are doing that piece (thankfully - I don't like it at all!) but photocopying a page should be fine as far as I know. Otherwise you are allowed to bring in a page-turner. That's what one of my grade 8 students did last year for a piece which involved several page turns.

Only if you get permission..

QUOTE
d) Candidates are normally required to make any page-turns in their music themselves. Under no circumstances will the examiner act as page-turner. However, candidates taking a Grade 7 or 8 exam (particularly in Double Bass, Guitar, Harp or Percussion) may apply to bring a page-turner where this is absolutely essential and other means of managing difficult page-turns are not possible. In such cases, permission must be requested in writing from ABRSM at the time of entry, giving details of the piece containing the difficult page-turn and the edition to be used. ABRSM?s letter granting permission should be brought to the exam room. Organ candidates at any grade may bring a pageturner (who may also assist with changes of registration in a Grade 7 or Grade 8 exam); prior permission is not required. (See regulation 15k regarding the legality of photocopying music).

e) If necessary, a candidate?s accompanist is permitted to bring a page-turner (for a Grade 8 exam only) to assist with difficult page-turns in the piano part; prior permission is not required.

I think page turners are only allowed from Grade 8, but maybe someone can confirm this
