Hi Folks

Just to let you know that StaxofSax are running a saxophone playday in Manchester on the 27th May 2012.

The day consists of Large and Small ensemble work and an improvisation workshop in the afternoon.

The event is open to anyone aged 11 plus with a minimum of 12 months playing experience.

This will be our 12th workshop and they are going from strength to strength. We are limited to 20 players so that we can give sufficient attention to those that may need it. The aim of the day is fun and challenging music making.

Please visit of staxofsax facebook page or www.daveplummer.net for details of our previous events.

If you would like to talk more or reserve a place then staxofsax@gmail.com is the best place to do that.

cost of the day is ?30 per person and the event runs from 10am until 3pm

The venue is
Maunders School of Popular Music
Wilson Park
Monsall Rd
Newton Heath
Manchester
M40 8WN
Here is the link to our flyer, we would be very grateful if you could spread the word for us.

The link doesn't seem to take me to your leaflet. I have seen on the organisors website it's from grade 1 up and have passed it on a link to the site. More sax events needed in Manchester (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Hi Notmusimum

I am not sure what happened there, but I have checked the link this morning on 2 different computers and it is working now.

Thanks for passing the link on that is much appreciated.

We are hoping that if this event is successful we will make it a regular thing. We are based in Leicester and run one every school holiday and at the moment we are having to turn people away as we are over subscribed. This means that we cannot offer the level of support to the delegates, which is very important to us.

We are looking forward to visiting Manchester, but we have no contacts in the area so any help that people are able to offer is greatly appreciated.

regards

Dave

Just a thought, would more people be interested if we opened this up to other instruments?

Let me know what you think please

I think it's too early yet to know if there is enough interest as all the schools and music services are on holiday at the moment.

You need to contact local sax teachers, as you are not in competition with them they may be happy to send their pupils along.

Well we are now up to six booked and a couple more checking their diaries.

You are right about contacting sax teachers, but I am finding it difficult to get email addresses for them as most of them seem to be listed on sites like musicteachers.co.uk who want you to contact the teacher through them. If anyone knows of either a teacher or a website that gives email details I would be very grateful for a point in the right direction.

You could try emailing schools - their email addresses will be easy to find. And email libraries and ask if they can display your poster.

And also try emailing local authority music services.

I will definitely try all 3. I have a technical question for any school teachers out there. If you are sent an email with an attachment does it get caught in the spam filter?

I would normally send and email like these with the flyer attached.

I will crack on with these excellent ideas.

Thanks

we have 7 places booked for the 1st Manchester event and I have spent the morning emailing sax teachers and Music services, Salford came straight back saying they had passed the details on to all of their staff for their pupils.

Things are certainly moving in the right direction, any one else fancy joining us?

We had a great day today, loads of fun, plenty of learning and met some very nice people too.

the large ensemble piece was my funny valentine and the small groups palyed Loony Toons and The Moody mode. Some people had never played in a group before and others had never improvised before, but everyone had a go.

The Jazz session worked on Nows the Time and So what and a very good effort was made by one and all.

There will be some videos to post soon and a few pics, problem is I get so involved with the music I forget to get the camera out until its nearly too late!

We will definitely be coming back to Manchester before the end of the year, we will keep you updated with details and hope to see a few of you join us for the day.

Thanks gain everyone that helped make the day a success, especially Notmusimum for help and advice with the advertising
