I hope this doesn't count as advertising - I would just like to share with all adult posters who might be interested the amazing flute resource of the City Literary Institute (City Lit) in London. They offer four levels of teaching, from absolute beginners to post grade 5. Classes are ensemble style but with opportunities (and encouragement) to play solo. The teachers are great and you get the opportunity to play with a professional standard pianist at levels 3 and 4. It's really fun as a supplement to your private lessons.
