I've posted this in viva strings, but it's something that non-string players may have some suggestions on too...

I've been asked to play in a concert for parents on Thursday....it is a Jubiliee concert, we have Royalty on the rock this week so I has to be something in keeping with this. I am incredibly busy with the band because of the royalty so it needs to be simple but effective, violin and piano, minimal practice time!

Any suggestions?? (NOT greensleeves!!). I need to be able to find the music for free or very cheaply online as no time for post. I was wondering if there was anything folky as I'm far more confident playing that. I'm a bit stuck at the moment and don't have alot of time for deliberation. And Salut D'Amour is out as I've played that in a concert there before.

Is Ashokan Farewell English? Just a thought....

Hi Sunrise. Ashokan Farewell is by an American composer I'm afraid. How about Elgar's Chanson de Matin if you have the music for that? Or do you have any Vaughan Williams (just thinking about stuff with a folky edge)?

Thanks! I was thinking about Vaughan Williams, but struggling to find stuff online (and pennies are tight so free or nearly free is pretty important..). I wondered about the sea songs, or a medly from....but can't find it!

I might do the Ashokan anyway, not sure anyone will know it's not english!

How about one of the English folk songs that RVW used in his compositions?

Following on from maggie's suggestion - is this any help?

Lovely Joan is the 'other tune' in RVW's Fantasy on Greensleeves. Love it!

LOL I have that on CD, with Vikki Clayton singing it (ex Fairport convention). It's lovely - but not sure it's for a fiddle in a concert - unless I can segue it.... Might learn it to sing it, though..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
