Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 202 Joined: 8-November 11 Member No.: 350591	I only ever heard C.C. play once, and that was at the church of St Thomas the Martyr in Newcastle. Access to the organ console, which is on the south east gallery, is via an extremely tight cast iron spiral staircase, and C.C. made great play on the fact that he was too big and had to gain access by climbing the gallery stairs at the west end of the church, and trundling along the gallery. I also remember having a vinyl record of C.C. playing Bach on a (then) new Frobenius organ. That was before some **** broke into my house and stole my entire record collection.

The last time I saw him play (Shirley Methodist Church) was about 2 years ago and he was very unwell - gout being one of the problems. Goodness knows how he managed to play at all, but he was still his amusing and stoic self. I was always sure he wouldn't make old bones... I know a lot of purists didn't like him (particularly his Bach interpretations) but he did a huge amount to popularise the organ and much of its repertoire. He will be sadly missed by many. His Memorial Service will take place at Pershore Abbey, Worcestershire WR10 1DT, on Friday 26 October 2012, starting at 2:30PM. Afterwards, his ashes will be interred in the Abbey's Memorial Garden. Anyone is welcome to attend and celebrate Carlo's life with some of his other friends from around the country and the world. The hymns will be: O Praise Ye The Lord; Abide With Me (Carlo's favourite!); The Day Thou Gavest; Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory Of The Coming Of The Lord. The choir Voces Assumptionis will sing "How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings Fair" (from A German Requiem by Brahms) and "In Paradisum" (from Durufl?'s Requiem). Allen Organs are kindly providing Carlo's touring organ for the service. Bx
