In London there is the London Schools Symphony Orchestra http://cym.org.uk. This is an excellent orchestra that also requires an audition for places.
There is also the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland Summer residential course http://nyos.co.uk, musicians come from all over the UK to Edinburgh for the course. |

In response to your signature baroquebasoon, Nielsen wrote the wind quintet to great acclaim, and was going to do concertos for all five. He did not live long enough to this, so bassoon got left out. He did the clarinet one, but it is fiendish.
As for youth orchestras, get into the NYO, and we'll see you on the telly. :D |
