hi dragonsicetiger!

Good luck looking for a viola teacher. You are never too old to start learning an instrument for fun, as long as you are prepared to do a bit of practise. I would imagine there would be no shortage of musical opportunities in a place like Sydney, but I'm afraid I don't know what they are as I'm 12,000 miles away (guess) in UK. I hope someone more local pops up to answer your question.

hello everyone,

well, i have wanted to learn a new instrument for a while. I already play the piano (3rd garde) and i teach myself the guitar, both of which are really common instruments, so i wanted to play an instrument that not many people play.

Also, i really like the sound of stiringed instruments, and i like the viola better than the violin. I like the cello too, but i prefer the way you hold the viola when you play it to the way you hold the cello, and my grandfather used to play the violin.

So yeah, thanks for listening!

any particular reason why? (I don't disagree with you, I'm just interested)

I dunno really, mabye its because my voice is also alto, hehe, but i think because the sound is not so high and it sounds fuller, but mabye thats just the ones i've heard, as i don't hear viola's being played often. I also like the violin, i just think that the viola is more my style.

Hi

I started the viola when I was nearly 14. I wanted to play a stringed instrument but not the violin because its just so common. After listening to cello and viola recordings I decided on the viola. The best decision of my life! I love the viola's distinct timbre. And it's nice to be different and not just be another violinist. Viola players rule!
