I've just voted for Bach - mainly for his solo string writing, but also for his fantasic choral works. The St Matthew Passion is just fantastic. Elgar comes a very close 2nd though...

It has to be Beethoven, but its taken many years to realise just how profound and magical his music is.

Hi Queen of Sheeba
My favorite composer is Beethoven, my favorite piece hard to choose the Pastoral symphony is high on the list as is the emperor concerto. For piano and violin I love the sonata No 5 spring. Ive got the music for that and I make atempts to play the adagio on my violin from time to time. But I like he way he uses dynamics. |

Hi,
Mozart was/is absolutely outstanding in my view. I do feel Beethoven was more passionate but I also feel his music was all over the place where as Mozart's music was more 'controlled.' Just my 2p worth! Regards, Craig |

Its Beethoven for me also.
Mozart is an amazing composer but I feel he is more of a konformist (a rule follower.) He looks for the logic in his music where has Beethoven wrote off the cuff. Beethoven wrote whatever he felt in whatever key was appropriate. He was more creative and I feel Beethoven wrote with much more passion. Regards, Craig |

Hard decision! Either Mozart, Bach or Beethoven (Especially his Emperor PIano Concerto). My mum likes Handel, his violin sonatas are so pretty! Has anybody been watching the programmes on Mozart on BBC. What did you make of them?

How can you all narrow it down?
For me, my absolute favourite composer has to be Debussy. His solo piano works are just sublime, and I can really relate to his music. However, I really like Prokofiev also, and Fauré, and Beethoven, and Mozart, and Grieg, and........ See my problem? :( |
