Hey!!!! I'm going on holiday this Sunday but I've been told there's gonna be lots of looong car journeys and I can't stand them!!! So does anyone know any good ways to prevent car sickness/headaches? Apparently if you put a plaster on your bellybutton it helps but that's kind of random!!! Thankyou!!!!

Always look at scenery, or green things in front. Don't look out through the back window. DON'T READ BOOKS in the car. Suck sweets or some sour plum. Roll down the window and let the air blow in your face.
Hope that helps. :D

definitely in the front - or failing that somewhere you can look out of the window and geet an idea of the road ahead. Under NO circumstances try to read!!!! You need to keep your head up! (I speak from years of experience!!!!!!)

Yeah, always look outside. I used to use these travel bands which you can probably get from chemists. They're a wristband which puts a small pressure on the pressure points on your wrists, which helps you stop feeling sick.

I used to use those travel bands. They really do work! Drink lots of water too.

  • Sleep;
  • Look out of the front window;
  • Make sure the car doesn't get stuffy (plenty of fresh air or air conditioning).

:D Thanks!!! Yeah my friend had those wristbands...she said that you still throw up but it takes the pain away!!! I'll try and look outside at all the lovely hills and bushes and sheep and cows!!! I tried sleeping for most of the long car journeys but when I wake up I usually feel weird and grumpy!!! :lol: ahh well maybe it's just me. My friend told me that water makes you feel even more sick so I'm not sure if I should take water... Or I could try playing one of those weird car games as well...does anyone know any good ones that will last for a long time?

I usually don't play car games, because for me, car sickness is caused by looking down. I think it may has something to do with looking at the motion of the car. Anyway, I won't advise doing anything in the car, really, be it books or games. I suggest:

- Play word games with other people.
- Look out of the window at the distant landscape, not the car next to you. It's better to stare at something that doesn't move quickly.
- Suck mints/chew gum. Water helps for me, but I'm not sure about others.
- Open the window & get fresh air in.
- Listen to music, if you have an iPod/mp3 player etc.
- Sleep.
- Stop occaisionally at service points and walk around for a bit.
- Talk, laugh and enjoy yourself!

I used to get really car sick when I was very little and I found that the bands worked miracles! Maybe it's just a psychological thing so when you wear the bands you're constantly thinking about whether you're feeling sick or not, to see if they're having any effect, and then you end up feeling sick because you're thinking about it so much! ...or maybe you're ARE just weird! :lol:

I've heard those bands work too, although I've never found them. That advice about looking out of the window only worked for me looking out of the front windscreen. Looking out of the side made me feel sick. The best antidote I found on long journeys in the back of the car was to have something enjoyable to listen to on the radio or car stereo.
