I have got to teach in my lecture this afternoon, basically I have to do an instrumetal lesson with all my peers watching...and a bit scared that I am going to muck it all up. I have had plently of teachingexperience...just not with all my friends watching and then criticising me!!! I just slightly nervous....any tips?

I know it's easier said than done but you have to try and ignore them and pretend they're not there!
Focus - in the same way that you do when you're performing to block out distractions. Good Luck! biggrin.gif

Yeah that is what I was planning to do.....I hope that they don't make that much background noise!! I know that not all the class will be there, which is good not as many people. It is a really fake teaching situation, as I am teaching a peer of mine, who is just as competent in their instrument as I am in mine...so it is really hard to teach them properly...if that makes sense? I happen to be teaching an organist...it is a very interesting experience!

I had a similar experience as part of my teacher training course at college and I would suggest the following.
1)Have the lesson planned out to the letter so you are confident with what you want to do and can fill in the time slot properly.
2)Try not to think of the "scenario" you are in but try to treat it as just another lesson that just happens to have your peers as part of the class.
3)A sense of humour goes a long way and if something doesn't go to plan, make light of it and try to see the funny side. That will put the class at ease. Remember, the class doesn't know everything that you might talk about and may be learning something new. My particular Lecture was a seminar on film music and by the end of it the class definately felt that they had learnt something new and discovered something that they were'nt aware of before.
4) Just be confident and try to enjoy yourself. Students like to watch confident people at work and that they are in control and know what they are doing.
5)Have a banana apparently!!! biggrin.gif

Good Luck. You'll be fine I'm sure.

I know what you mean - it's much easier with a genuine pupil - however much they try to pretend not to know stuff, it doesn't quite work! smile.gif

If I were teaching one of my pupils who I have taught from the start I would have no problem...the person who I am teaching is not the most reliable person in the world either.......so I suppose that is stressing me out a bit too
carol*piano
Yes I can see that would not help! Hope it all goes well for you biggrin.gif

Yeah...well I will find out in about 40 mins....my lecture is at 2....I have had a banana, done a lesson plan with scope for deviation (if he turns up) and am currently drinking a calming cup ot green tea biggrin.gif Will let you know how it goes...if there is nothing by the end of the day expect the worst! tongue.gif

I am still alive biggrin.gif It went well...my lecturer said that he can see me getting on with teaching younger children really well, which is good as I am applying to do Primary PGCE, and I already teach younger children the recorder! The only problem came when the person I was teaching forgot it was today, and he didn't bring his recorder or the music, so he had to run home and get it.........that made me really nervous before hand...it was just before the lecture that I was joking that he would forget...will teach me to open my big mouth!

Yay it went well! biggrin.gif
Typical - forgetting it was today! Anyway Well Done! biggrin.gif
miochy
tongue.gif tongue.gif Well done Ruthypegs!
I did my Primary PGCE only a couple of years ago. It's really hard work coz they have to cram so much in, but so rewarding. Having music will be such a bonus aswell...you'll walk the interview!
Good luck!
