Hi , First of all you need to tell us what type of voice you have! I am a soprano and when i did my garde 8 singing exam i did Benjamin Britten's arrangement of O Waly, Waly. Its a beautiful song. There are 3 verses and there is lots of room for expression. I personally think its gorgeous to sing. The song ranges only an octave (D-D) so female singers shouldn't have problems, regardless of their voice type. The song can be found in the following book, which contains 6 other gorgeous songs, any of which would be useful for grade 8, I got full marks on my traditional song when I did my exam, so if you do decide to use the song, I hope it works the same for you. Good Luck with the exam and happy hunting for alterntive folksongs if you are unsure on my suggestion!!

Hi Sky

DON'T PANIC.

Try Sing Together, edited by Appleby and Fowler, published by OUP.

It's got lots of traditional songs, there should be one to suit your voice. I sang "The Ash Grove" for my Grade 8 (page 70, I think).

Don't stress yourself about it - all you have to show is that you can start and finish in the same key without a piano to prop you up!

Good luck

Cheers

Did you do grade 7? The examiner won't know or even care if you do the same song you did for an earlier exam so long as you sing it to grade 8 standard!
