It's a tough one really isn't it? how do you describe someone thats a passion without sounding totally geekish?? I love music because music is music.

You can make it sound romantic...I can't so I won't try.

I guess that music is a passion for me. Some people can look at a picture for hours at an art gallery and not get bored. I can't do that because I don't see what's so wonderful about it. Music is similar, a person can try to love it, but sometimes they just can't. I just so happen to be one of those people who do like it.

I'm not really sure. I think it's the thought of you being able to make the sounds that you are playing especially when you like it, and I like being creative too. I am a huge fan of music though, you would not believe the amount of CD's in my house.

Basically music is the thing that destresses me and keeps me going...i just love music, end of story..lol

For me love the challenge of learning a new piece and the feeling you get when you can play it right. I also love listening to classical music as it has so many 'moods' and its more pure than any other music

I like music, as in piano + oboe + singing, because it's part of my identity, who I am. Yeah, it does sound odd describing it, but I can't find a better reason. I like the music to which I listen, well, purely because I like it. I've tried to work out why; it's not lyrics, unless it's really horrible, it's not the attitude of the band, unless ditto ... I reckon that what attracts me to the music to which I am attracted are the basic chord progressions. Doesn't matter what you start on, but if it goes, for example, D minor - Bb major - F major - C major and back to the start, it gets me. Dunno why though!! It's the sort of chord progression used to most rock stuff.

Music is just so many things. Playing music allows you infinite opportunities to let your imagination wander and immerse itself into a multitude of different and wonderful soundscapes, while at the same time it allows you the chance to develop a deep-rooted discipline of the Arts. The actual process of making music itself is not only endlessly challenging but both frustrating and rewarding. Playing music allows a person/persons to immerse themselves into the Great composer's musical worlds and temporarily revel in awe and wonder at the musical vision of great people. Music has the power to stir up the whole gamut of emotions and can often instill a feeling of spiritual enlightenment in both listener and performer.
As well as all this, its also just sometimes great fun to play!! Need I say more?

I love music as it can express our feelings. Music is not restricted by languages and thus lets us communicate with each other around the world. Different countries have their own type of music, which help us understand the characteristics of their people too.

When I feel stressed or unhappy, playing the piano lets me feel relaxed and away from the unhappy things. Don't know if you have the same feeling?

Like music...as a hobby maybe. Or to relax...just like to listen to it, and better for now because able to choose the music for myself and play it for myself...really enjoying it.

However...
I heard some poeple saying that "there won't be a reason if you really love something or someone".

I love music cause it has been a great source of inspiration when life lets me feel down. It enlightens me, telling me never to give up, just like a ray of hope illuminating my darkest nights. Above all, music actually helps me in my academic results, it is so similar to Mathematics, allowing me to love Maths, which I previously hated so much. LOVE IT, because I greatly enjoy and have been putting a big deal of effort in it.

Music totally frustrates me and annoys the bejeebies out of me. THATS why I love it. I can never get it good enough - or there are too many nice ways of playing something. Or, when you are learning a piece (or even a piece that you havent played for a long time) when you look at the music, it's like you are seeing it for the first time and find something completely fresh and new that you never knew was there before!!

I love trying to find that other layer - there are always deeper layers in pieces of music - and as frustrating as it is to reach the heart of the matter, you never get there.

This is the constant challenge of music, and why I love it.

Spent the last 15 years trying to convince myself that I could have a career which didn't involve music. Reluctantly have to admit that my mother was right (!) and that I have to return to music. I don't know why I love it so much, but have realised that I'm miserable without it.

I come in from work now and practice the piano rather than put the TV on - I'm so much happier. It must be a competely intrinsic thing I guess.

Music is a personality thing. In the nurture vs. nature, I think a bit of both is involved in what makes people love music and want to do it so much they devote their life to it.

I can't actually say WHY I like music, I just do and always have ever since I can remember. Everyones brain is hardwired in a different way, but those who eventually go into a music career will have had some sort of exposure to music at an early age that triggered a desire within them to pursue it as a profession. I guess for me it was a 'calling'; much like theologists talk of a 'calling' to study religion.

We all have some sort of music appreciation for listening, but to actually devote time, possibly a lifetime to cultivate the skills to play an instrument well, takes a certain amount of introversion within the personality. Learning to play requires a substantial amount of time shut away, on ones own, honing the skills. Although musicians are a sociable bunch among themselves and obviously come together to play as an ensemble, a lot of them (classical performers anyway) don't particularly like all these post-concert reception things, they'd rather go to the pub for a quiet drink among a few close friends and then disappear into the night without any fuss.

I don't know what it's like not to be around music all the time. I don't want to find out.

It's just too addictive, and i'm so used to it.

I never did like it at first but then now I can't imagine what it would be like without music! I listen to music all the time when I'm not playing, and it's strangely addictive. Some people just like listening instead of playing but I think the sense of accomplishment you get from successfully learning a piece is awesome.

I totally agree. I love being able to unwind on the piano or listen to music to help relax.

Bit of a wierd/vague/silly Q IMO but here goes nothing

Its a fantastic way to release your worries etc, when I get upset etc I use my music to channel my emotions into the instrument and out comes the music which carries the undesirable emotions away

It's also a great hobby and looks great to have a Grade 8 distinction on UCAS forms for Uni Plus it makes a good "talent"

Without wishing to "big myself up" (lol) in any way or sound like a total dork (which in my case is quite in avoidable) my analogy of why I like music is because of the following:-

When I was 5 years old, and had been having piano lessons for 1 year (aww seems so long ago now ) I played to my Grandma for the first time along with my brother and sister. My Grandma turned to my dad and said "Rebecca's got it". Now what "it" is that I, and I'm sure all of you out there have is open to debate... but that it why I love music - I don't have the foggyest why! I'm normally quite articulate but it is something undescribable. I would say that music has a link to me, in which I can release my emotions, everything about me and something is expressed that... I don't know - its me! But deeper than that - are any of you spiritual? Well maybe its your soul or something. Hmm such a deep profound question!
