Has playing an instrument ever changed anyones view of classical music? Before i started playing i used to consider it 'boring', but now, i find it interesting, exciting etc and listen to it all the time. did anyone else find this happens?

I don't think playing an instrument has changed my view of classical music, it has created it! I don't really remember a time when I wasn't aware of classical music and wanting to be able to play it. A lot of my friends find it really boring and think I'm weird for loving it so much, and I think if I didn't play an instrument I might feel the same. But then, it's because I love it that I play an instrument (or is it because I play an instrument that I love it?!) I can't really tell which came first! Playing an instrument has definitely made a huge difference to the person I am today!

(in a positive way i hope!)

I have always love classical music, and have sung since I was small, but I must say that having a classical singning training has changed my view about opera and lieder in particlular. Would not often listen to that type of singing, especially if it was sung by a woman(!), but I do appreciate it much more now. Have always liked the church choral tradition and oratorio, however. I suppose singing myself has broadened my horizons and helped me to appreciate a much wider repertoire, which can only be good!

Mine too, but i am coming to the conclusion that it might be because they dont really know anything about it. SO maybe this influences their decision?

Yeah I agree- usually the people who criticise are the one who know nothing about it. I have a lot of non-musical friends (though most of my friends are musical), and yes, it's the non-musical ones who don't like/don't understand classical music- they're eejits!

All my schoolfriends (and some musical friends

) think I'm weird for liking classical music
It's not fair is it?
I just tell them it's not the only type of music I like and anyway how can the type of music someone likes entirely define them as a person?

I know- it's not at all fair!
But, classical music has, to a certain extent, defined me as a person. I just give soooooo much of my time to music, I cant imagine what I would be like without it, probably completely different, and really boring! i dont know what i'd do with all that extra time on my hands!

hi people!
Classical Music is defintely growing on me ever since I've been doing higher graded stuff. my sister is a fan of classical music and some people do think she is wierd

. I think people see classical music as a thing only posh snobs can enjoy which is not true at all!

Before I really started to enjoy my instruments and appreciate them I couldn't stand classical music, it seemed so old. But now I find myself walking along humming a piece of classical music, I also find that I used to have pop music in my head all day, now I have classical. I find it really intresting and relaxing and each piece of music is different!
