I don't want to go on a reserve list if I am just going to make the other performers on the day nervous rather than contributing something to the concert along with everyone else. I still don't know whether the general concensus of diploma-level players is 'inspiring' or 'depressing'....
Aw yap, I can understand that you're feeling a bit hurt by some of this, but I really do hope that you don't entirely feel this way. Your solo playing was wonderful, your accompaniments were absolutely fantastic, and I know I found your music inspiring, and an absolute pleasure to hear.

Having slept on it (or laid awake turning it over in my mind...) I think I can now say what I feel about the Adult Larners situation a little more clearly.
Firstly it is good that, whatever the level of performers, everybody has been really friendly and truly supportive and non judgemental. That is what we were aiming for but I don't think it is something we could have taken for granted.
Having said that I still felt a little out of my depth at Egham with the number of higher level performers.
The decision to have some restriction on the number of dip. level performers is not an attempt to segregate as has been suggested but to redress the balance.
People have said that hearing 'better' players is inspirational and enjoyable and I agree with that and don't want to lose the input from those people but I don't think that 'top heavy' is a good balance.
(Mods...... please excuse me double posting this but I think it needs to be in the Adult Learners discussion too).

I have mislaid the music - I did have a brief look. I'm happy to play V2 unless you especially want to, it's less scary! I don't mind which.
My bro's girlfriend is due at the start of August and might be early........ so I may suddenly NOT be able to come.

Hello All,
I played (?) last year and enjoyed all the performances. I haven't entered this year as I need to build confidence.
I am playing a recital with my teacher in a couple of weeks time in the hope that this will help calm the nerves!
The strange thing is, my job entails me standing in front of 100+ people at a time and delivering often unwelcome news - how nerve-wracking should that be?!
Anyway - I wish all those performers that I met last year sooooo much good luck - and all new performers - GO FO IT! (I am!)
Good Luck All!

As I'm a newcomer to the forum I have only just learned about these adult learner concerts. I think this is a great idea. I would love to take part but it would help if the venue were reasonably close to my home town in Norfolk. Stalybridge is a bit far for me. Leicester would have been ok. London would be easy as I have somewhere to stay there. Some where in East Anglia would be ideal but I guess there has to be a critical mass of volunteer helpers in a given locality plus a cheap venue and good transport links if a concert is to materialise. Maybe I will just hope that there is a nucleas of concert-organisers in my region and perhaps something might happen.
It would be good to have something like Stalybridge but in East Anglia - in fact I am in Norfolk too.
Leicester doesn't sound too too far, but how about Norwich?
A fine city with some lovely places to make music.
Praps some more music-makers/adult learners would post to say where they are and especially if they would like to meet in the Norwich/Ipswich sort of areas. There must just be loads of music goes on....

Katyjay has a open offer to give advice to any would be concert organisers... do PM her.
One thing I've found this year is that it is not very easy to get local interest from outside the forums but this is the way both Katyjay and myself would like to see these events developing.
I think that it's one of those things that may take 2 or 3 years to really pick up, I do think that I've generated some interest in my local area which will bear fruit next year.
