I have both my home and my work computers set to log me in automatically when I go to the forum web page, but I tried to log in from another computer the other day, and it wouldn't log me in. I assume "hazel" is my login, and I have a couple of standard passwords I use for almost everything, but it kept saying I didn't exist (perhaps I don't ).

Any idea how I find out what I should type in?

Hmmmm....maybe clear the cookies, make sure that you don't have caps. Try logging out of your home pc and seeing if it works then. Try doing the forgotten password thing.

Don't want to risk logging off at home in case it won't log me on again (yes, I am slightly addicted ).

And couldn't do the forgotten password thing as it said my login name didn't exist. Maybe my login name was different to the displayed name?

The username is case-sensitive so make sure you're using a lower case 'h'.

This happened to me. In the end I contacted A. Brown who helpfully (and very quickly) told me that my user name was not what I thought it was.
I suggest you do the same - it will save weeks of frustration as you try all the different variations of Hazel and your password to be repeatedly told you don't exist!

Hazel- I think I love you!! It's nice to know I'm not alone here. I have had days of trying to log in on my computer at home. I have tried all variations of my real name, my log-in name and all kinds of passwords. I have been told many times that I don't exist. I have tried registering in a different name which gets as far as me being told it's been accepted only to find it hasn't when I try to log in next time.

I have shouted at the computer, I've jumped up and down like a two year old and I've just stopped myself from picking it up and throwing it out the window.

I've also PM'd the mods but as yet HAVE HAD NO REPLY. MODS ARE YOU ALL HUNG OVER FROM YOUR CHRISTMAS DO??!

The username is not case sensitive but the password is. Check cap locks isn't on if it's not normally when you log in.

Maybe I'm using the wrong user name? Is that my real name or Charlies Aunt?

I think you probably are using the wrong user name which might be neither your real name nor Charlies Aunt. It is whatever you gave your user name as when you registered with the forums the first time.

I would echo Kerioboe. I was once blocked out for a weekend shortly after I changed my name. At that time I never used to log out at all, so I had never tried logging back in. For the whole weekend I tried every variation of both my old name and my new name, and eventually in a moment of inspiration, I tried what I would describe as my account name, which is different from my user name. My account name is shown on the "Topic Subscription Reply Notification" email. Eureka!

I've been logged out for months!!!!! I e mailed the admin team several times ... and no reply. I just read this thread and worked out how to get back on (user name was my real name!!!!!!!!!!!)

.... but I've just noticed I've lost all my previous posts..... My computer had crashed. Something very strange has happened here..... I think one of my kids might have re-registered or something as my name has changed to ClariNicki1 from ClariNicki. My daughter does read what I've written sometimes.... This needs investigation.

Well, this is the solution I had to come up with as I could not log in as Charlies Aunt even though I was calm and serene. (To start with I was, anyway.)
My sister came over and logged herself in under this name of Appleblossom!! Sweet ay? So now at home I have to be Appleblossom and at work I have to be Charlies Aunt. Confused?? You will be!!
If this is considered "illegal" I hope you will all come and visit me in the forum jail.

I'm temporarily home to unpack and repack before going away again, didn't get chance to try logging in @ sister's house (she was ill, so hope we don't all go down with it ). Will try @ inlaws, using all the suggestions above, and if desperate will try CA / ABs trick, since she doesn't appear to have been charged with anything yet

Whatever happened to GoneChopinBachSoon?

Well, I have finally sorted it out (No thanks to the mods, who never replied to my emails / PMs, in fact one of them says it has never even been read )

Since I am leaving work soon, I thought I'd better change my email address from my work one to home, so I did, which logged me out. And the validation email that came to home to confirm the change of email had my login name on it!! Which, just like Kerioboe's, was not the login name, or any variation of it that I was expecting at all. I must have picked it when I registered to be my login name, and then put "hazel" to be my displayed name on the grounds that that was a bit more sensible

So CA/AB, maybe you could try this trick too? (not being sensible, heaven forbid, but changing your email address )
