I've posted a previous msg on finger placement. Can anybody help me with a technique on how to place the 2nd finger on the e string to play G ?
I find it difficult to reach it with out moving my my hand/wrist position. If you play G from an open E string. How do you do it ? I am plying the Gavotte as one of my exam pieces and i am having a hard time doing it without feeling my hand get tensed.
I'm not confident that i can do my exams this autumn if i continue to feel this way. sad.gif

I've just got it out and played it (I played it for my grade 2) and I think what you've got to remember is that you're second finger has to be low, almost touching your first finger as there is not G# in the key signature, and also, try not to grip the neck, if you keep having trouble with this, tuck your thumb behind the neck so that your thumb can't grip the neck and then try and play it, its hard, but it can make a whole world of difference.

To play the lower notes on the E string you need to turn your wrist a little to the right so that you can see your palm, otherwise you'd have to twist your hand too much to the left to get your fingers on the string.

Playing the violin should be all about ease and comfort, not stress and strain.
