Well, at 10.44 today I had my driving test. I was really nervous, my lesson before went well actually. Then the test came, and it went ok, although my driving wasn't as good as I thought it could be. I had to do turn in the road (where I had to wait about 10 minutes for the road to clear), and reverse round a corner.
I failed because at a set of traffic lights, when I was going right, I cut across a bus. But I am pleased though, getting 2 minors only, I'm really proud of, and if the traffic light incident hadn't happened, I would have passed with 1 minor.

Well done Nicki - next to passing which would've been great, it sounds like it was the next best thing and you did yourself proud and didn't fall apart like you thought you might. Well done

Apr 2 2007, 11:29 AM
That's unlucky. Still, 2 minors is brilliant (at least by my standards

) and shows you're very close to passing. When are you going to retake?

Apr 2 2007, 11:30 AM
I got back about 30 minutes ago. It's a shame I can't book in the Easter holidays (can't apply for another one for 10 days.)
The thing is though, there were perfect conditions today, and it was that just one thing. Next time it could be awful.
My lesson before was alright, and I did the best I could.

Well done, too bad about the bus.

Apr 2 2007, 11:37 AM
Well done Nicki! despite not quite passing it sounds as though it went well on many points. My first test went a lot worse than that. Then the dvla people went on strike and I didn't get another test for 6 months. aargh.
Darn that bus - why did it have to be in that bit of road just then ??
nicki_flute
Apr 2 2007, 11:38 AM
I know! It was unlucky, but it was my fault! But at least my general driving is ok

Now that's pessimism

The lack of minors suggests you're pretty competent, so I doubt next time will be awful. You may still fail for that one thing which you do wrong, but that's more luck than anything.
Are you sure you're not allowed to apply for 10 days? I was able to apply again immediately; it was the test date had to be 10 (working) days on.
nicki_flute
Apr 2 2007, 11:41 AM
Oh right, yes, that's what I meant. The test date has to be 10 days on.
I feel bad for my instructor, he's been so good to me, and it was just 1 instance where I didn't forward plan. Plus the route he took me on was ok. Gah. I'm feeling more pessimistic about retaking.

Turn in the road? Is that what i call a three point turn?!
Apart from the traffic light incident, that was a good test!! I think i passed mine with something like 2 minors though i can't remember now. Your aloud something like 15 aren't you? Though no majors!!!!
Don't worry about next time, that shows your nearly there and a lot of it is down to luck.

Have you got a car or are you buying after you've passed?

Yes, only you can't call it that now apparently, as it might not be 3 points worth.
You're allowed 15 I think, and if I hadn't done the bus thing I would have passed with one minor.
I currently use my mum's 10 year old Fiesta to drive

As Nicki says, it's not called a 3 point turn now because it's acceptable to use more than 3 "points" if the turn is especially narrow or awkward for some reason.

Hear, hear to what everyone else has said! Only one major error and the small number of minor ones tells you just how close you were to getting this - so I'm sure that next time you'll pass, no problem!

Don't worry about it- you'll be less nervous next time, (It took me four goes to pass, and when I did pass I had 1 less minor than would have failed me) get on that phone everyday and get a cancellation.

Apr 3 2007, 07:24 AM
I've eyed a date I want, and am really anxious for mum to wake up so I can book it - 23rd May at 1.33. But she's asleep. Hmm. I am hoping to get something earlier though.
Have rebooked for 23rd May at 13.33
If you don't cut up a bus this time, it sounds like you're home and dry. Worst part of my driving test: stopped at a set of traffic lights about to turn right, 3 minutes from returning to test centre and knowing that save a complete meltdown on that return, I'd probably passed.
Good luck in May.

I did look out for pedestrian crossings. I thought I had failed at my first set of traffic lights. I was turning right, and just as I went through them, they were on amber, and then changed to red, but it must have been ok...
I've rebooked my test...
