Hi i was just wondering if I had to be 18+ to put pupils in for exams?

I'm 16 (17 soon) and have 4 pupils to put in for grades 1-3 singing.

Is it possible to put them in the exam myself, or will I have to have their parents put them in.

Thanks

I think the age limit is 16, so you should be OK.

I had a look as I was interested in entering myself, but you had to be 18...

It's 18.

Yup, I just checked, I was wrong, it's 18 - sorry.

I guess it's because, in agreeing to the terms and conditions, you are entering into a contract, and you cannot legally do that under 18. (Which is why our contracts with our students have to be with a parent if they are under 18.)

I dare say it is 18 officially, but I was trying to enter my daughter for an exam some years ago now and having entered all her details ended up aborting the attempt. However some days later we received a card with her details on and an applicant number, so I suppose in theory she could use it - she's 13!

I managed it when I was 17 even though it was officially 18, no one said anything and I filled in the form truthfully etc!

It says quite clearly on the form & in the regulations that the applicant must be over 18, though obviously they won't know whether you are actually over 18 or not. Wouldn't it be best to get someone who is over 18 to enter your pupils, whether it's their parents or perhaps one of your own parents or teachers, until you are 18 yourself?

Does anyone know if you can enter yourself or have your parents enter you if you are self-taught?
Im under 16 and am teaching myself piano with the help of a talented friend. I wanted to enter myself into an exam just to see how well i am doing, is this possible? Can I or my parents enter me?
Any help appreciated. x

Your parents can definately enter you, as far as I know there's no rule to say that it has to be a teacher. I've never entered the girls for AB exams but we have to enter them for Rockschool, as the teachers don't do it.

Your parents definitely can enter you (as long as they are over 18) Hee hee.

Yes, anyone above 18 can enter you for the exams. It can even be your friend instead of parents. Or an elder sibling. biggrin.gif

I have enterred myself, for exams, and will be enterring my brother for his exam next term!

I taught myself grade 5 theory, but had to get my non-musical mum to enter me because I was only 15. My next clarinet teacher was pleased though - we had saved her the hassle of teaching me the theory and entering me for the exam!
