The scene in The Railway Children where the smoke clears on the platform and she shouts "Daddy! It's my Daddy!" brings tears to my eyes every time I think about it (including whilst driving to work this morning!)

What's yours?
Reverie
When Beth dies in 'Little Women'.
'Anne of Green Gables' when Matthew dies.
'Goodnight, Mr Tom' when Zach dies (and the book's even worse!)
'Braveheart' (lol) when anyone dies
'Bambi' when his mother dies
'Sophie's Choice' at lots of bits.
'Terms of Endearment' when she says goodbye to her children before dying.
'The Lion King' when Simba's dad dies.

Yeah, I get upset when characters die...

Other films that make me cry: Schindler's List, Dead Poets' Society, Titanic, Shadowlands, The Joy Luck Club...oh, and the end of Remains of the Day (why doesn't the butler just tell her he loves her?!)

Ooh, and not a film, but the episode of ER where Dr Greene dies is awful. I got through sooo many tissues both times I watched that. sad.gif

I love films/books that make me cry.
helly burnet
I cried buckets in Gone with the Wind when the little girl (Bonnie) breaks her neck falling off her horse when I first saw the movie. I don't cry at it now.

Two that always make me cry however many times I watch are the end of When Harry met Sally when they finally get together on New Tear's Eve and the end of Four Weddings and a Funeral when they are standing in the rain and he asks her to agree NOT to marry him for the rest of her life.
melody_maker
Brooks Hatlen's death in Shawshank Redemption. We watched it in class and every single person was in tears, even the guys. It's soooo sad, I cry buckets when watching it.

The Lion King - when Mufasa dies

Life is Beautiful - several bits

And some other films.

Oh yes...that is a true weepy.. sad.gif

The final scenes of "Whistle Down the Wind" when "Jesus" is lead away.

The Elephant Man...where he lays down, and the Barber Adagio starts playing..

Of Mice and Men when George shoots Lenny

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest when McMurphy has had his labotomy and the big Indian guy breaks out...

The Road to Perdition when Tom Hanks is shot...

The scene in Philadelphia when Tom Hanks comes out of the solicitors office after he refuses to help him...

The end of The Immortal Beloved when she is reading the letter and they play the second movement of the Emperor...gets me every time. (I know it's not fact..but what a great use of the music. And Gary Oldman makes a great Beethoven smile.gif ). Oh yes...in the same film, Karl goes off to attempt suicide and they play the 7th Symphony (second movement).

In Disneys Fantasia..the Greek mythology figures for the Pastoral Symphony and the cloaked figures going off to pray in the Ave Maria...very clever, moving stuff sad.gif

Ooh dear...must get a tissue.. blush.gif tongue.gif

Rent, when Angel died, and at the funeral. Also when they're all singing "Will I?"
Umm Moulin Rouge at the end.
Of Mice and Men, when Lennie dies.
Romeo + Juliet, for obvious reasons.
Little Women when Beth died.
The Fox and the Hound - can't remember which bit but it was sad.
Edward Scissorhands when everyone hates him.
pianoboe
The whole of 'I am Sam' I cried buckets. If you haven't seen it - SEE IT.

Life is Beautiful - several bits

IPB Image especially the scene right at the end when he's reunited with his mama... IPB Image

The original black and white film about the Titanic - A Night to Remember - particularly the scene with the band playing and also the one when the man puts his wife and children into the boat and I think they say they'll see each other in New York but they both know he's going to go down with the ship. I can't bear to write this, I'm in tears thinking about it!

Another black-and-white film - It's A Wonderful Life - with James Stewart. The scene when he wishes he'd never been born, the scene when he clutches his little girl's flower petals, the scene when he comes home and all the town has rallied round, and then when the bell rings and the angel's got his wings...

I'm going to have to get out of this thread, I can't bear it... IPB ImageIPB ImageIPB Imagebiggrin.gif

I can't believe nobody has mentioned The Green Mile yet! That just kills me.
angie
The near end of Meet Joe Black, when Anthony Hopkins walks off with Brad Pitt.

Juliette Stephensons grief near the beginning of Truly Madly Deeply, and towards the end when Alan Rickman has to let her go .....

But for both films, i think it was the music that encouraged the tears, i love Thomas Newmans' film scores and of course the Bach pieces they used in Truly Madly Deeply

sniff

Ditto the above... the Bach, the beginning, the end and most of the middle thereThere.gif .

Schindler's list, The Pianist when he plays for the German Officer in the deserted house, and yes the Green Mile and what about Black Beauty?

AND last night I was close to tears watching 'Les Patterson Saves the World' because it was easily the most awful film I've every seen - even the camera work was awful, it's not even entertaining as a mickey-take of itself, and I'm now going to stick the DVD on ebay as the worst film ever.... even if you are a Dame Edna fan it's boring, banal, tedious.. I even wish it was funny-bad but it's not, it's just bad-bad...
Nocturne
Hilary and Jacky, the part on the beach where Jacky tells her youger self that thing will work out OK sad.gif
Good Intentions
I agree with all of the afore mentoined films, particularlly ET I have never watched the whole film, I watched it when I was 5/6 and got hysterical when they took him to the lab for testing, i ran and cried under my bed, mum desperatley tried to get me to watch the end, but I was too upset, i have never been able to bring myself to watch it since (even though I know there is a happy ending). I would like to add the following films:

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle stop Cafe - Beautiful film

Beaches - well I am a woman

Watership Down - My favourite

Jurrasic Park - When Sam Neil and Laura Dern see the Dinos for the first time (John Williams is the master of tugging heartstrings) but always stop crying when Sam Neil says 'their moving in herds, they do move in herds' worlds stupidist line ever laugh.gif

Short Circuit

Turner and Hooch

The Piano - oh wow this film is beautiful, but Sam neil and the axe ohhhhh, Sam Neil is becoming a bit of reoccuring theme actually.

Shawshank Redemption - when Tim Robbins plays "The Marriage of Figaro"

Gladiator

Rain Man

My Girl

Ghost - did I mention I was a big girl

It might have been quicker to post the films that dont make me cry wink.gif
pianoboe
I adore Fried Green Tomatoes!
Choddy
When Eva Peron sings her last song, lying on her deathbed in Evita.

That's the worst one.

sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif
Aquarelle
Bambi
The Bear (at the beginning when the baby bear is orpaned)
The Two Brothers (When the tiger who hasn't been in the circus doesn't understand and thinks for a moment that his brother has deserted him)

....and anything else with animals - I'm a real idiot when it comes to animal saddies.
Alicia Ocean
In The Killing Fields as Dith Pran reaches the final sumit in his escape through the jungle and sees the camp ahead.

Oh yeah, I forgot that one sad.gif

And Titanic....when Jack dies! sad.gif
LooneyTunes
Ever since I had kids, anything to do with them makes me blub like crazy!

Most recent ones:

'The Sound of Music' - the scene where the Captain 'rediscovers' music - he's just fired Maria and then hears the kids singing for the first time.....

'Meteor' (I know! ph34r.gif ) - the scene where the character played by Annette Bening knowingly faces death (on a beach with her dad), but in the knowledge that she saved a young child and her mother by giving up her seat on a plane that was headed for safety.

I haven't watched 'The Railway Children' for a while, not since having kids anyhow..... *makes point to find copy and buy a large box of tissues*
cellocase
Gone with the Wind....
DaisyChain
I forgot 'Kes'....the part where the lad finds his dead kestrel in the rubbish bin. oh.. sad.gif

And Ring of Bright Water when Midge/Mij (sp?) the otter is killed...

**blub...blub...blub...sniff..**
Lixandreth
Oh, LOTR: Return of the King when Gandalf rides off to Minas Tirith with Pippin and Pippin and Merry don't think they'll ever see each other again.
Clariano
When Bambi's mum died sad.gif
In Billy Elliot when his teacher is reading out his mum's letter and he starts reciting it because he has read it so much. sad.gif

*blub* smile.gif

I bet you have! Everyone has, think of when you were a baby or toddler. Anyway, according to all the psychology/self-help books etc, we're supposed to be "in touch with our emotions..."

My best friend (male) watched Rent! the other day while I was there and had to leave halfway through for a tissue, cause he was crying. Of course afterwards he insisted he had a cold, and wasn't crying... he was just "sad in a really tough way."
mrbouffant
Yes, Bambi! And that scene in "The Crying Game" when one of the protagonists reveals their true self.. You know what I mean!!

Plus I remember going to see "Seven" many years ago and, visiting the loo afterwards at the cinema, us gents were gobsmacked into absolute silence.... blink.gif

I agree. The music and lyrics were absolutely crass. Enough to bring anyone to tears! tongue.gif

I absolutely sob my socks off in the film Gladiator, it's when he dies, and you just see his hand brushing the corn in the field as he's reunited with his wife and little boy, absolutely kills me!!! It's the music more than anything, it almost sets me off when they play it on classic fm tv!

The end of Schindlers List when they're laying the stones on his grave

And to add... in Harry Potter 4 when Cedric dies and his father comes down and it's just so emotional sad.gif I sat there in the cinema crying to myself rolleyes.gif (someone please tell me it's not just me!)

That bit of Titanic actually makes me laugh now... after my friend pointed out how she says she'll never let him go then actually pushes his body away. Yes I know it's all metaphorical and everything, but I still find it funny... rolleyes.gif

I always laughed at that in Titanic. Yes Harry Potter four was sad... would have been less sad if the actor was a little less good looking.

chocolatedog
Anything where animals die - wildlife documentaries especially usually mean a trip to the supermarket to get a new box of tissues afterwards.......... sad.gif
