I wonder where I can buy a cheapo collapsible laundry basket...

The cheap 'Poundstore' type shops usually sell them.

I got a really nive frog one from The Yorkshire Trading Company. smile.gif I assume they must have a Yorkshire Trader shop in York...
Celeste
I've never seen one, Flossie. unsure.gif

Lucy, I'd try Poundworld and Poundland - they have all sorts of wonderful things! smile.gif

Oh man, there's a Yorkshire trading in my (tiny) town. I should've looked there I didn't think. I'll give the pound shops a try before I look anywhere else I think! smile.gif

While we're talking about shopping, does anyone know where you can buy the plastic clips for sealing cereal packets, etc? I have several given away free with cereal some years ago, and my son wanted some for uni (he is a bean freak, and has about 10 types of dried beans in packets, which would benefit from a clip), but we couldn't find any anywhere - not even in the Betterware catalogue!

I get mine from Lakeland.

Thanks, andante! I thought someone would know! Only problem is, the clips cost £1.69 and the p&p is £4.50 ohmy.gif Perhaps there'll be something else in the catalogue I need (the people who set these things up know what they're doing, don't they?!).

Oh, but Lakeland are *good*. smile.gif

They do have various shops around the country as well. You may know someone near one. smile.gif

In my experience, one ALWAYS finds at least ten things that one absolutely HAS to have in the Lakeland catalogue *lol*...

Just had another look at your link, and guess what? A new Lakeland store has supposedly opened recently in the Oracle in Reading! Sounds like a good excuse for a shopping trip to me biggrin.gif

Just got back from the beach- very chilly!!!

Had a lovely hot choc, and took some piccis for art, then found a hermit crab who came out of his shell! ohmy.gif
And jumped about in the waves for a bit. I left my shoes off in the car on the way home, and now my feet are very cold and clammy laugh.gif

that's good, Floss. smile.gif

My 'random comment' is that there seem to be a lot of undergrads this year who have parents going with them to registration, introductory lectures (they've not been allowed in the one downstairs from me and are standing in a gaggle outside), tutor meetings etc. wacko.gif
Celeste
Is that normal? unsure.gif

I can't imagine my parents coming with me to any of those things... 'specially not when they couldn't even travel down with me! It's been strange doing it all on my own, but it feels quite character-building...

I'm sure it is character-building - our daughter's just landed at uni, and is having a few trying days, but we didn't hang about for registration/lectures etc. We thought it was best to take, see her in the room, make sure she had some lunch (and so did we!) and then abandon her to it. (I don't think we'd have been very welcome for much longer to be honest! rolleyes.gif )
Crotchetymum
I do remember my mother being with me at some point on registration day - I'm fairly sure she came and saw my room in the hall of residence. If I remember right, a friend drove us up, and then they went off to lunch and home, and I got on with it (until the weekend, when I went home smile.gif)

I find myself writing some really bizarre stuff when dealing with foreign people via email who don't speak/write great English.. I think I must subconsciously try to match the style they write in to make it easier for them to understand. tongue.gif It seems to work, though.

My mum came to Leeds with me to move all my stuff into my room, but went back the next day.

Having parents at registration and introductory lectures... that would be so embarrasing and unneccessary laugh.gif

When I first went into hall of residence, the guy next door was moving in with the help of his parents. His mum was neatly arranging his undies on the radiator to air. Oh how we laughed about it afterwards. biggrin.gif

Blimey, our term started on a Tuesday (for freshers - usual start was on a Thursday). Spoke to the college beforehand, yes, I could come on the Sunday - purely for parental convenience. So I was dropped off on the Sunday lunchtime, got to spend Sunday and Monday hanging around with the other half-dozen people who were also early!

I have just spent time trying to sort out the mobile telephone of the daughter of the Bishop from Uganda who is visiting our deanery.
Quite why it came into my hands, I'm not sure! Through amazing detective skills wink.gif tongue.gif , I found it didn't have a SIM card (most probably intentionally- but that wasn't mentioned to me) and it is currently charging (with a charger the Bishop bought from a 'phone shop on his trip out yesterday) and saying "Bonjour"

I'm not quite sure what the problem is, or why it has travelled so far (600km in a very bumpy truck to the airport, then to the UK, and probably taken up to Scotland when they went up there for a few days too!) but it seems to be charging...
