I've just realised that I can get the coastliner instead. That has later buses laugh.gif

Is that one of the X buses? there are a few of them that head through York. Not sure if First now does a service that runs to Leeds and I seem to remember seeing somewhere that an Adult day Rover (£3.70) can now take you as far as Leeds on the First system. Could be worth looking into .... though it may have been a short term promotion unsure.gif ... or indeed I could just be wrong!! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Sorry I won't be joining you for pizza this time... sad.gif

I'm really excited! What actually happens? Our teachers have just told us that it's lots of young musicians and we will leave buzzing, and they release balloons at the end.

Yep, it's mainly groups who have done well in the Music for Youth National Festival, lots of different genres, last time I went we had everything from orchestras and brass bands to pop/rock. I think you might be able to see the lineup on the Music for Youth website.
Yep, last time we had fireworks (inside!) and balloons, though apparently this time we're getting little lights rather than hats and flags at the end sad.gif But it should still be good, Land of Hope and Glory and all that biggrin.gif

Don't suppose anyone knows any tricks to getting cheap flights anywhere? I'm a bit down, and want to get away for the weekend, to visit a friend in Belfast, but all the flights seem prohibitively expensive. I looked at ferries, but they didn't seem much better really.

Unfortunately most flights advertised as cheap are almost impossible to get at that price once you add on all the extra stuff like taxes etc sad.gif

That's definitely a factor. Made a total idiot out of myself in a seminar the other day. It's more friend stuff though, to be honest. I don't want to moan, if I got into it even a little bit, I'd have to explain a whole thing, but I seem to be growing apart from my friends here. I never see them, because we all have so much work, and since i don't live with them, I don't really have that connection. I'm kind of getting lonely. sad.gif Can you hear the world's tiniest violin playing just for me?

Somehow I've managed to stay close with a couple of friends from home though, so I want to visit them. I looked at cheap flights, which were like £16 or something, and then it added tax and it was suddenly up to hundreds!

Many people were wearing poppies last week. I have 30mins ago just walked down Horsforth High Street, and now they mostly have disappeared, certainly there are far less on view. Yet today is Armistice Day !
I guess that as most churches this year had Remembrance Services last Sunday (they are always on the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day), people went to church and then removed their poppies. !
We have just observed 2 min silence in our office.

I was wondering earlier, and I think someone on here whould be able to answer, if you have a concerto, eg. for clarinet, do you have a clarinet in the orchestra too. I would assume that you wouldn't and the only clarinet would be the soloist, but it's been puzzling me all day.

I think, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, you only have one soloist but you'd have more than one clarinet. The 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, would play in the orchestral bits but none would play with the soloist smile.gif

There will nearly always be orchestral tutti clarinet parts as well, yes. The same goes for wind bands : I've got a piece for solo clari and wind band on the go at the moment, and there is a solo part, plus tutti 1st, 2nd and 3rd. smile.gif

Depends - earlier concertos wouldn't have any in the orchestra, more modern ones may well but it is probably safe to say the orchestral clarinet parts are unlikely to be terribly exciting. I played in an orchestra accompanying the Debussy Premiere Rapshody where to keep ourselves awake the other clarinettist and I swapped parts every bar during the rehearsals to avoid terminal boredom!

Great fun but to project over the band I played it with meant by the time I got to that note my lip was rather dead (esp as it was at the end of the 1st half of the programme) I split it sooo many times. Our current MD is suggesting we should either do that again or maybe the Artie Shaw sometime next year.

If you do the Artie Shaw concerto, let me know and wherever you are, I'll try and come! It's one of my top favourites and I'd love to hear a live performance of it wub.gif
