I've been nominated for Chair of my Gospel Choir. I really wanted a committee position, and was like "if anyone wants to nominate me..." but I was thinking ordinary member. Now I'm rather worried. I work SO much, I really can't let my course suffer, and I was picked cause there's no one else, which means many positions are unfilled, trebling my work.
I want to do it... but I don't want to do it and then epically fail at it (ruining it for everyone) or fail at my academic work (ruining my life for me).

I once shared a train carriage with someone playing a treble recorder (badly) and it was one of my journeys from ######

I had got up at 5.00 am, taught seven hours and had fallen asleep on the train home. I was woken up by what I thought was someone's mobile phone but it kept "ringing". Eventually I looked around to try and work out who wasn't answering their phone and saw someone playing a recorder. He wasn't even busking for money, just playing well known pieces out of tune and with the wrong rhythms.

I'm sure you'll fit it in if you really want to do it, lucky. After all, you were complaining that people hadn't invited you out the other day, so you must have some spare time! It will be good for your CV and I bet you'll enjoy doing it once you've got used to the idea.

It's a bit different doing things at night than doing admin-type things for a choir... but Lucy, I really think you should go for it. You'd be perfect.

You'd have a vice chair, right? So if it got too much you could swap, maybe...

Well the thing is, there weren't enough people nominated/willing to fill all the positions, so no Vice-Chair. I'm not sure I like the idea that rather than laughing about the rubbish parts of Gospel Choir, I'll have to worry about them and come up with strategies to combat them... I think I'll do it though, I feel better this morning about everything. Though I'll probably back down if someone else gets nominated.

Anyone know if there's a "morning after pill" for cats?
Our vet doesn't like spaying before they have had their first heat? Only Domino didn't tell us she was feeling randy. None of the usual ostentatious yowling and climbing up the window. But this evening I caught her in the act with a large, handsome, randy ginger tom.
We have four cats and homing kittens is a nightmare so I'm off to the vet as soon as he opens tomorrow morning. Shame really ... she'd have tortoishell or ginger long haired kittens if what I've read up on genes is correct.
But I'm afraid it's no kittens and into the surgery to get spayed as soon as possible. The tom, incidentally, should be done for corrupting a minor - she's not much more than a kitten herself!

Does she really think that, or was it that the size 12 were in a sale / there on the hangers / otherwise available and she thought they'd do?
In the same year (over 15 years ago now) I was bought items of clothing in a size 8 by my boyfriend's mother, who thought I was skinny and needed feeding up; and size 16 by my mother, who thought I'd been putting on weight recently. As far as I remember I was pretty much a standard size 12 at the time.
I'd be very happy to be a standard size 12 today!

Whilst I was at college my mum knitted me a jumper. Even then I was 6' 3" or so, so when she wasn't sure that it would be long enough she just continued with adding a few more rows. When I got it, it was huge! Fortunately though, not quite so huge that I couldn't wear it.
However, like many of my clothes I found that when I returned home at the end of each term at least one of my two sisters would be wearing them - my rugby shirts were the first to disappear and this jumper was apparently just the thing, worn with a belt and with the sleeves rolled up (rolled up a long way, it must be said!). Shirts too, closely-fitting on me, baggy on them yet long enough to be worn as a dress (with a belt and accessories)!
