I just went to help out at my music group's annual show (Oklahoma). Given the abilities of all the members, I thought the singing was distinctly average (which sounds harsh, but I just knew they could do better, I was upset for them). Then at the interval, one of the women who was doing the tea and coffee with me said that she thought the singing was fantastic, and that one of the girls (who I'd thought was struggling a little) sounded like she was operatically trained.
I guess it just goes to show you how subjective these things are. (And maybe how harsh a judge I am.

We've just had an email come round for 'walk to work' week (26-30 April).
I can't decide which is more insane...
Either the idea of me walking to work (it's 10 miles)...
Or the fact that I've just looked up all the bus times, etc, so I could in theory walk in to work in the morning, do a short day (i.e. 10-4, so I don't have to get up tooooo early to get walking), and then get the bus home...

I think you considering walking to work in nay way at all is totally bonkers! You would be so tired by the time you get to work it would not be worth turning up at all.

Well I wouldn’t quite go that far. It’s only 10 miles, that’s only three hours at a reasonable pace (not a fast march). I don’t think it would be any more tiring than cycling it, which I do regularly, it just takes longer because you’re going slower. But it’s less arduous than cycling so you can do it for longer without getting completely flopped.
Actually it’s a funny thing with walking – people will happily tell you that you can’t walk for 3 hours (4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours) but fail to realise that they do that on a Saturday afternoon going round the shops…

Well, walking 10 miles is not exactly bonkers if you have the whole day to do it
But if I get to work at 8am there's no way I'm leaving at 5 in the morning

Same goes for finishing at 5 and getting home at 8pm. I'd have to eat my dinner on the way home

That's why I'd get the bus home. And instead of getting in at my usual 8am, would go in for 10am, as we have flexitime. It's only a one-off so I can do silly things like this if I fancy. Still, if the weather doesn't turn out to be all that nice...
As for today, I am without jacket or cardi. It's warm enough to now - slightly cool this morning and thinking I should have put something on, but warm and v.cloudy now

Watching the end credits to 'Whatever happened to the Likely Lads', there are a couple of youngsters playing by a brick wall where buildings have been knocked down.
Does anyone else wonder where those youngsters are now or, perhaps more specifically, whether as adults they're out there watching themselves with a touch of '70s nostalgia?
