How did you get on today Andante?
Difficult to say, but I felt I did rather better than I feared I might. I was more relaxed than I expected, and I enjoyed myself.

Sounds good : all the best for your result

Wonder what works/performers will be in the Proms this year?
Willing to guess Puccini (b.1858) and Messiaen (b.1908) will be there somewhere...

A couple more odd coincidences lately... This morning I had a conversation about how we only ever seem to eat pancakes on Shorove Tuesday, and how I thought it was a shame. A few hours later, someone else happened to mention that they were going to make pancakes following a remarkably similar conversation.
(Not only worrying because of the coincidence but because there are actually 2 of us who feel quite strongly about pancakes.

)
A few days ago I was looking through some photographs from a concert I went to, and came across some from a performance of 'The Love Cats' and as a result had the tune stuck in my head for hours. Listening to a requests programme on BBC R2 later that day, the same song was requested by someone.

maybe it's 'cause they are the rival universities (Oxbridge

) so it's more fun if it is only between them two so either one or the other has to win/lose...
i'm just guessing though.
EDIT: oops! i didn't realise there were other races previously! I thought it had only been Oxbridge! blink:

Yes- the last weekend in October they go back and the last weekend they go forward! I don't mind the clocks going back, it's putting them forward that I strongly object to!!

yes - sorry - I meant forward. I agree. I meant was it the same weekend as the boat race! should have quoted the relevant bit of Barry's post.

I have just discovered that "une note sensible" isn't a sensitive note but the French term for the "leading note." I have been wondering for four years why my teacher seemed to think some notes were more sensitive than others and why it was never the same one.

There are things one should not do when one is paid to sing a solo in church.
These include
- not getting round to studying the work ahead of time
- assuming the organist has looked at the music beforehand
- assuming that the organist will remember the clock change and will arrive on time for practice
- having the organist turn up with a slight hangover
- trying to disguise the organist's consumption an Alka-Seltzer in the church kitchen, especially if it's a denomination who don't support the use of medicines and the like
- smiling brightly and saying "no problem" as you look at the music for the first time half an hour before the service, even though the lines and dots are dancing a bit in the sunshine
- looking totally staggered when the minister says afterwards "that was a really meaningful solo, you must have worked soooo hard at it....."
