It really isn't, Flossie, and it's certainly a lot quicker to produce a crocheted garment than a knitted one. Crafts are always easier to pick up from watching someone who knows what they're doing, so try to find someone who's confident with crochet and get them to instruct you.

I don't know anybody that does crochet. sad.gif I taught myself how to knit from a book about 3 years ago and didn't have any problems with that. I've tried following a crochet book, but can't get anything to look like the pictures. mellow.gif

I'll dig out my crochet things after Christmas and do some revision...I am not an expert crochet person by any means - I am just less terrible at crochet than I am at knitting! blush.gif

I also have a vague recollection of an additional complication with crocheting in that British/ American books use the same terms to mean different things! So you have to know where the book is published in order to interpret the patterns.

Thank you. party1.gif The book I have is English. smile.gif There are the same UK-US differences with knitting and (to a lesser extent) cross stitch - different yarn weights, different needle/hook sizes, stitches which have the same name but are different, and so on. wacko.gif

Just had an OMG moment in ToysRUs! Standing in the queue with my modest ?30 worth of goods, the lady in front started talking to me. She told me she'd lost count of the number of times she'd been to the store over the last few weeks and had already spent ?5000 (five thousand!!) on gifts for her 3 children and every day they ask for something else, (which obviously then goes out and buys) ohmy.gif

I must be the meanest mother on earth budgeting ?150 each on the children.

That is absolutely stupid!! The kids wont even touch those toys because there will be too many to choose from. I remember when my were little that I only ever used to put a few toys out at the time and keep swapping them over as then they held interest.

?150 budget for each child is more than adequate certainly not mean! What is the point of putting yourself in hoc that isn't what Christmas is about - ?5000!!!! I am gobsmacked!!! What a waste of money! She would be better off putting it away towards their futures.
