I've been happy pootling around North Yorkshire today. Found a good hardware shop in Bedale hurrah.gif tongue.gif

We have had a near perfect day. Drove gently to Beverley whilst listening to radio 3 (Beethoven's tempest comparisons, Claudio Arrau reviewers choice!), instead of the usual thrash. Spent an hour wandering round the market and having an 'al fresco' lunch in the very warm sun, before enjoying the final recital of the Chamber music festival. The Cropper/Welsh/Roscoe trio played 2 more Beethoven trios finishing with the Archduke. I've heard them play this 3 times now and it just gets better & better, the 3rd movement - andante cantabile - is "simply the most glorious movement in all of Beethovens chamber works", quote from Moray Welsh. Still can't get it out of my head.

Being out in the sunshine most of the day, with the kids and also catching up with an old friend. smile.gif

Had a piano lesson this morning, preparing for the Devizes Eistedfodd music festival in November. I'm playing 'Auschwung' from 'Phantasie Stucke' by Schumann, which i think is on the diploma list with the first piece, so will probably do the piece for the diploma as well.

Also, i love the cold weather, and it's been cold with lovely fog all over the fields next to my teachers house today!

Me too! There's a lovely one in Wadebridge, which is a mixture of everything you could possibly need, and some odd vintage things as well. The counter is made up of half an old car, and if you look up at the walls, there are old motor bikes and other odd paraphernalia hanging about. It's a bit of a mess, but all the better for that, I think.

I'm happy today because my new nephew arrived at twenty minutes past midnight today. woot.gif But the best bit is that he is ginger - so he matches his older brothers! (If he hadn't have been ginger there were serious discussions about returning him under the 14 day money back guarantee!)

I had a 6 year old pupil for her second lesson. We looked at E,D and C on notation and we learned to play them (without hitting the G sharp key). Then we were looking at some easy pieces with just these notes in and I was singing them to the pupil, naming the letter names as I joined. She was following the music...... BUT THEN.... she began singing the letter names with me. I backed off and she led... she was sight singing accurately at 6, in her second lesson. I was very impressed.

Maybe I'm just feeling happy as I thought I deserved 2 glasses of wine after I taught til 8pm tonight. blush.gif

Going to the dentist biggrin.gif

I didn't get panicked beforehand, my dentist turned out to be as nice as he always is, I have to go back to have a filling but I don't mind because it was just a virtually stress-free event, which was a very pleasant surprise!

I have a non-practising 12 year old pupil... fairly beginnerish- Gr 1 standard. We've had zero practice this term.... until this week. I found a simple version of the titanic them tune. She practises.
I smile.
Today, I found her out a copy of Making the Grade Gr 1. We play the Theme from East enders, supercalifragilistic, Love me Tender.... we play other music from that book, (working on tongueing, slurring and breathing) and she leaves saying 'I'm definitely going to practise this week, I LOVE these pieces'. I smile smile.gif smile.gif again.
