It may take a while to arrive Batty. We had the revolting weather last night. Storms and gales. sad.gif

Thanks Floss! I'm still frustrated by the amount of time it's taking me to recover, though, and to feel 'normal' again...

Hurrah! hurrah.gif So pleased to hear that you're on the mend at last.

hurrah.gif Would just like to second that and say don't work too hard too soon Cyrilla.

Another thing that made me happy today. A mother took the trouble to come in and say how nice it was to hear her children playing the piano. She said it added a touch of gaiety to the house - even with a few wrong notes!
Cyrilla
Thanks, Floss and Aquarelle smile.gif .

Luckily Bagpuss finished teaching a bit earlier than usual today and was able to go and get me soup and Ribena from Sainsbury's (my diet at the moment!) and bring it round smile.gif .

As for the work thing - unfortunately I've got to work every day Mon-Sat (except Tues) this week, even though I don't feel anywhere near ready... sad.gif

It sounds like you have been quite seriously ill and are in no fit state to embark on a week's work starting the day after tomorrow - you can't go from not having got dressed or left the house for over a week straight back to full-time work! Could you not take the Monday off and start again on Wednesday?

My mum soldiered on when she had shingles and ended up off work for weeks.

It does sound as if you're trying to do too much too soon, Cyrilla. I think you need more time off if you say you don't feel anywhere near ready.

Well, it's not all day on Monday - one private student during the day and then my group in the evening (unfortunately I have someone who wants to come and observe and I've already put them off a couple of times so I really can't again...)

I don't know whether they are observing in order to assess you or simply to pick up some tips, but either way I'm sure it would be better for both parties if you're 100%.

Thanks biggrin.gif , am also meeting up with a friend who I haven't seen for two years and (hopefully) Jason Isaacs who I also haven't seen for a couple of years. Mainly I'm looking forward to the trip down from Derby as it will make a nice change to my usual Monday drudgery. biggrin.gif

I think Viggo Mortensen will be on The One Show tomorrow night also, just before I meet him, hopefully.

What has made me happy today is setting out a very rigorous diet plan to shift the freshman fifteen that have taken residence on my tummy and thighs. I may not exactly stick to it, but at least I feel like I'm being proactive.

smile.gif biggrin.gif I'm happy in a kind of roundabout way coz OH's 'food poisoning' from last week has turned out to be a really nasty stomach virus which is doing the rounds... and, unfortunately, he's passed it on to me and I feel really gross and oh sooooooo tired and lifeless and sick sad.gif

But he's still ill too and has now been signed off work for another week so I'm happy because...

1) He can look after me and make me ginger tea and stoke the stove with fuel and sympathise when I'm sick..

2) I can look after him and make him ginger tea and things and sympathise while he's sick.. and..

3) ..we can curl up on our sofas, drinking ginger tea, cuddling dogs and watching old films together...

Just before my step-father passed away in February, it was his wish that we asked for donations to our local Hospice instead of flowers.

My mum heard today that we have raised £375.00! smile.gif

What a wonderful sum to raise. Your stepfather must have been very well-loved outside the family as well as among you, and I'm sure many people will remember him with full hearts.

I hope that's helped your Mum feel better, and that you're all coping OK.

Yes he was, thank you. smile.gif Mum is thrilled..as are we. And the Hospice did a fantastic job in regards to his care. Sadly (as per usual!) they are desperate for funding. Hopefully this will help in some small way.

I am happy that I can finally play Ravel's Fugue from Tombeau de Couperin accurately and fluently - with two and a half weeks to spare before the concert! The fingering and phrasing seemed so complicated when I first tried it that I thought I'd never master it in time.

But 2 hours a day for 3 weeks works miracles. Daily repetition is a powerful thing. You have to have a bit of faith in yourself sometimes.

Now I just have to finish memorizing it!

A lunchtime concert in the Library, which I have just left.

A superb clarinetist - Matthew Dunn - with Vincent Billington on piano.

They played; 3rd movement from Mozart's clarinet concerto, 6 Bartok dances, 3rd movement from Brahms Sonata No. 1 and Carnival of Venice theme and variations. I have never heard the latter played better.

Still on a high from the pleasure of listening.

Don't fret, Tom - you've caught your fish! Yes, Viggo does seem to have those attributes, but I think the extra attraction (for me at least) is that he's quite enigmatic. There's always a pull when a man has an air of mystery about him!

Still waiting agog to hear how Ms Fiddle got on with him.
