This may sound a strange question, but how can they (the tom cats) tell??

When ready to mate, female cats and dogs release a pheromone (volatile hormone) which male dogs can smell miles away. It sends them wild with passion!

Cue for Essex girl jokes? wink.gif

I still have pricks of conscience about having our dog done when she was little. She was a cross between a labrador and bull Mastiff - both excellent family dogs - but having a crowd of dogs turn our garden into one almighty orgy one day was enough!

But I didn't realise then what a marvellous dog she'd become. I'd love her to have puppies. Too late now. sad.gif

A little retail therapy! yay.gif

I dislike retail therapy because I then see my bank balance and wish it had not gone down since I had gone shopping.

A super Saturday morning's teaching - piano. All pupils turned up inspite of the fact that some of them have different school holidays from me and might therefore have forgotten to come. Everyone had achieved the aim I had set for the week except for one little boy who had spent his practice time writing in the note names of a copy of his brother's music because he wanted to play it too. The difference of 4 grades had not seemed an obstacle!!! When I gently pointed out that though I appreciated his enthusiasm it would be a while before he could actually tackle something like that he got the point and promised to work hard at his sight reading!

The other thing that made me happy was that my favourite cat, spayed the day before yesterday, got off my bed at lunchtime and managed to walk downstairs, tail in the air - and she hasn't tried to pull out the stitches.

You should be able to sight-read it tbh. smile.gif The rest, unfortunately, isn't as easy!

My piano teachers (and everybody elses tbh) confidence in me is much higher than my own blush.gif I keep looking at these pieces and thinking "never in a million years" whereas he's saying "right you'll be fine for grade 3 in the summer, let's give exam pieces a rest for a while ohmy.gif

I'd say listen to him smile.gif Definitely get hold of the Anna Magdalena Bach Book as well.. I know I keep on about it but it really is a great buy and well worth getting as it's a good introduction to the style smile.gif

What Grade 3 pieces are you doing?

Got it laugh.gif this was why Well tempered clavier came up in conversation. I'm doing probably the Sandre "Go to sleep" and Mike Cornick "Waltz in F". Not sure on list A, possibly the Clementi (another v good buy btw smile.gif )

Yes, but I'm still pretty rubbish! laugh.gif

I know that I'm probably doing fairly well for the length of time I've been playing - but I can hear in my head exactly how I want things to sound, and they don't sound like I want them to when I play them.

Nothing to do with music!!!

I wired up the street lights and interior lighting for the Swiss mountain village on the model railway. The street lights among the pine forest and autumn tinted trees on the track leading to the village looks really effective - even if I say so myself.
It's taken me A G E S to work out the wiring - I'm such a non-electrician!
........as well as being a sad old geezer for "playing trains"

Don't care!!

(ps - just bought a gadget for making the "gas" lamps flicker in the town centre...........oh, you saddo you!!

Got a decent amount of practice in for the first time in ages.

We've got a gig next weekend (Valentine's day) and we've spent the last couple of weeks rehearsing with a new pianist. It's sounding pretty good, if we keep it up it will be another good gig which will make me very happy at about this time next week!

I'm happy because I've been feeling down lately because I hadn't been hanging round with friends as much as last term. This weekend, I stopped waiting around to see what other friends were doing, and went out with people I don't know that well from one of my choirs. I went to dinner on Saturday and out to watch a French-soc film tonight, and it's been great, and I've made some great new friends. In between activities I've actually had phonecalls from the other friends apologising and offering real reasons for not being able to get in touch with me and do stuff. So I'm happy. biggrin.gif

........as well as being a sad old geezer for "playing trains"

My husband bought me a rail simulator game for Christmas. It's got Oxford to Paddington line (with modern traing), York to Newcastle (with 1970s stock - oooooh, Deltic!), and Bath to Templecombe (with steam trains).
It's good fun - and using up far too much of my time! I don't think he'd dare start me on real model trains smile.gif
fsharpminor
Good to see you posting on he happy thread Maizie smile.gif The trains will take your mind off other things. Hm, that might be something I'd like a go at, I used to be a real train/steam engine enthusiast in my youth - but that was ages ago !
