I think they periodically open the Nurburgring to anyone to drive round. That'd be fun in a 911 biggrin.gif

I was thinking the Autobahns seeing as the speed limit is the maximum rated speed of the manufacturer for the car IIRC. I don't think you'd be insured to take it on the 'Ring by any insurer over here, but plenty of people still do it - I think as long as you don't go crazy and just enjoy the drive rather than trying to hammer it around every corner you're ok.

A friend of mine managed to damage his M5 over there... ohmy.gif

Re. the Porsche. My favourites have always been the flat six air-cooled engines. When you've got an engine sound like that to listen to, who would want a stereo. So I went in search of a good 964 variant because they are a classic 911, but also quite practical in terms of a modern gearbox, ABS, PAS etc.

Eventually bought a 1990 G plate, Targa roof, just 87,000 on the clock with full Porsche service history.

The colour? Speed Yellow. Apart from a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, it's one of very few cars you can own in yellow that actually looks good. Wheels are the 17" turbo type and in black. It looks the business and goes like the proverbial off a shovel!! Will need to be careful I don't pick up points on my licence ph34r.gif

Additionally, the car will feature in a 2011 release film Tamara Drewe, starring Gemma Arterton (Io in the recent, Clash of the Titans) and Dominic Cooper (Willoughby in the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense And Sensibility).

The character Ben (Dominic Cooper) a former pop band drummer drives the car and described as an "unshaven layabout, with a rank philosophy and a yellow Porsche". The film is loosely based on the Hardy novel, Far From The Madding Crowd and brought up to the present day.

I didn't actually find this out until I'd bought the car. I'm half tempted to contact the film promoters closer to the time and ask if they'd like it on the red carpet at the UK premier in London - for a fee of course and it would have to be trailered to the event, not driven. In order to preserve the car in its pristine condition and for insurance reasons, I've opted to limit the annual mileage. So it's going to be my summertime toy and put into professional storage in the winter.

Purchase has been enabled courtesy of a cash sum I was left by my aunt.

So what will I drive around as a daily car? Well yes the very practical Volvo Estate is going and it will be replaced with a....

In my experience, this means one of two things: either some well-meaning soul will ring at 8 am because "you're always up by then and I wanted to catch you before you went out" - or you'll wake up at 7am and be unable to get back to sleep. tongue.gif

Or is that just me?!

Actually I've already been to bed today because I'm still poorly with a chest infection and SOOO tired...hmmm, that person had better NOT ring me at 8am (my friends know I'm not a morning person!) - and I'm afraid I could sleep for England and don't know the 'be unable to get back to sleep' scenario!
