We're always getting emails about scholarships and awards through, that I tend to ignore... But today I got one, which was an award for original prose (creative or academic),
and an email from my former tutor, recommending that I enter.

So that made me smile.

Maybe. I'm not sure what I'd enter, but since someone thinks I'm in with a chance I'll probably pick whichever essay I've written that's got the best marks... Although that's written on a fairly commonly discussed writer. Dilemmas, dilemmas.
I'm just pleased that someone I like and respect thought I was good enough.

That's such a lovely feeling! Everyone has doubts about their own ability at times, and it's a great boost when someone you admire thinks you cut the mustard.

Last night, actually: sneaking in on a rehearsal of the National Symphony Orchestra and Choir: Fauré Requiem, Berlioz Rákóczi March, Kodály Háry János Suite. Yum yum.
Then message from teacher to say he wants me to learn the Schumann Romances. Oh terrifying but happy prospect!

No I was trying to teach him the Brahms Lullaby so that he could send himself to sleep, but he insisted on composing a Grand Sonata (A minor). It had no time signature so we didn't need a conductor

It's a keyboard, though you can't do chords on it. You play each 'key' with a stylus.
