Just heard it on the news. And guess what.. both my other half and I are at home sick!
What about the rest of you??

I'm not off work, but I'm definitely under the weather - my guess is an incipient cold, probably a gift from my over-generous son who was suffering from one last week! I'd have liked to stay at home, but thought I should struggle in as the year 11 coursework is on.

I wasn't sick, just tired. Out of interest did they give a reason?

I had a sore head
Didn't cancel any lessons though...just fired some tablets into me on coffee breaks
I think when I wasn't self employed, I was far more likely to take a sick day...

It seems post-Xmas blues and the long wait till summer mean that the first Monday in Feb is the day people are most likely to phone in sick.

Should have made an excuse...

Mum's off sick with a cold and Dad's had it.

Absolutely - thanks Katyjay. I forgot to say - the plate (no longer innocent!!) stayed intact!!!!

There is definitely something a bit dodgy about glass oven doors. A few years ago I had a similar experience when removing the glass panel from our oven door to clean it - it suddenly shattered with no apparent blow or twisting etc. Nasty shock, you have my sympathies!

Thank you lots

Feeling a bit better now. I had a chat with Mum on the phone and she thinks glass doors might be dodgy too - she said the plate should have smashed - not the door!
Sorry - I've sent the thread a bit off topic. Hope everyone else is feeling well today if not clumsy!

I can't imagine this ever happening to me - I'm far too lazy to remove the glass from my oven door!
BusyBee, you have my commiserations. Your mishap is exactly the sort of thing I might do, but I would never have expected a glass oven door to shatter like that. How scary! I hope you can claim on the insurance, as it sounds expensive to replace.
I hope your heart rate is back to normal by now!

Yes it was a shock and I'm still counting my blessings. After reading Sue's post and chatting to Mum I think I will do some oven research before I spend the £250. Apparently (back on topic again!) the design has now changed - putting the main oven at the bottom instead of at the top (safety reasons?)- even though spare parts are still available for the old. I might find one without the glass. Perhaps the mishap will have a positive outcome.

Ugh! That film makes me feel sick... it's just too wholesome altogether
Sorry about your oven though. It's weird that the plate didn't break. I hate it when that happens. I find I just stand and stare at the mess for 5 minutes wondering how I can hide it

Wow busybee! Sounds scary, glad you're ok!
I was going to stay off today, but decided to drag myself out of bed and suffer through... but I only have two lessons - it should be interesting to see if my teachers turn up!

When I came over from home to Headingley this morning (my usual Tues/Wed over here) I learned the office was broken into yesterday

. No one told me when I was working at home on the Wirral yesterday.
All that went was two flatscreen monitors (not mine as I just use my laptop). But there were no absentees from the office staff yesterday. We had 100% attendance (that 10 people) both yesterday and today.
Oh oddly the thief left a copy of the Sunday Times for us. Probably couldnt carry a bulky newspaper and the monitors !

I thought it was america who had people more likely to be off than anywhere else due to the Superbowl. Sorry to hear about everyone who has been sick, get some

and I hope you get better soon. I myself have sat up in the emergency department for 4 hours today, with a massive ear infection, I had it in one ear, that has gone away and now it's in the other and the medication I was on the first time round now isn't working, so it's up to the hospital every day for the next 3-4 days for special drops to be put in. Today I also had a round of IV antibiotics, which they may do again tomorrow, I don't know. And of course with the other medication I'm on, i'm limited to what medications I can take for pain relief. FUN NOT. It's funny at home though at the moment as I am having difficulty hearing and of course my sister had her tonsils out on Friday and therefore is having difficulty talking, and as we are the only ones home during the day it is not a good combination. At least we have an everlasting supply of Mushy Food (ICE-CREAM).

Shame though; if i'd have known that I might have been tempted to skip it!
I'll remember this for next year though ;]
Feb 4th - yes I taught but apart from that it was a pure duvet day. I had a cold and fibro was rotten. Thing is turning up for work involves walking down a flight of stairs and putting on a smile!

Well - as March fast approaches and Spring draws near our lovely, new shiny oven is now installed. Its a great improvement on the one which exploded glass all over the kitchen
Pleased to say the new one is STAINLESS STEEL and completely Bee proof!
