http://forums.abrsm.org/index.php?showtopic=21300&st=0

There we go biggrin.gif
Caroline :)
Well I obviously wasn't here a couple of months ago was I?? Sophie how can you not love musicals?? I'm listening to Les Mis as we speak biggrin.gif x
hello_cello
Ive seen phantom thrice on stage, shall be seeing it MANY more times, we go everytime one of my cousins visit because we both really are obsessed with it.
Sound of music i am yet to see live, only seen the film about 15 times... (can also play the scores for both by memory)
If its a musical, i love it. Ive seen most though.
Not a huge fan of the lion king though
ben_walker446

Was never introduced to them tongue.gif

Caroline :)
I'm on my own now tongue.gif

Yeh I saw Phantom last summer! It was really good biggrin.gif:D I've got into a lot more musicals recently though, some that i'd never heard of before, like Scarlet Pimpernel, Jane Eyre... and they are actually so much better than Andrew Lloyd Webber. Other than Sunset Boulevard biggrin.gif:D, Phantom is still really good too though

I'm more obsessed than anyone I know... and I belong to a musical theatre group! I couldn't possibly pick a favourite... somehow I missed that favourite musicals thread too Ben, I think...
ben_walker446
I think sometimes musicals can be over played..e.g. sound of music and Joseph and so they become borign to listen to. Then when you discover new musicals like the scarlet pimpernel that not many people have heard of its like a new leash of life biggrin.gif

Say it again and ill slap you with your handbag... grr i hate being this age and liking musicals, lol.

Oh it's very good! I much prefer the music to the storyline. I've only seen it once tho whilst I was in NY.

incidentaly speaking of consdering musicals 'camp'

One of my teachers last year hit with with his hardback diary, and when i began crying (because it was incredble hard on my head!and a shock) he said *insert my name here* stop being so camp...

Just to be controversial - I detest musicals with a passion tongue.gif

I used to have a flatmate and we used to argue about this all the time (he loved musicals and inflicted them on me with boring regularity) - he is still adamant that the reason I don't like musicals is that I have no soul tongue.gif Maybe he's correct!

Caroline :)
Saw Wicked before Easter! That was amazing biggrin.gif:D:D

And we're going to see Les Mis in the summer aren't we ben? Wooop! Anybody got any suggestions for another one to see while we're there?? We've got a few possibilities x

hello_cello
Hairspray is good
the lion king, if you like acapella music.
I was going to see wicked, but got a migraine, so mum sold my ticket to the bus driver!
Caroline :)
HAHA! Did the bus driver enjoy it?

Flat mate said Wicked was absolutely amazing and spoke about it for about a month after he saw it.

Hence, on principle I hate it tongue.gif

Cheers,

The Souless One muahaha.gif

Caroline :)
Hehe. Sounds like i'd get on well with your flat mate x

Well, we were gambling in school.
But still tis out of order, also i believe its assault isnt it?
I hate to have said 'ill do you for assault' as most people would.
He hit another kid (slapped him on the back) his parents did something.
He apparently 'retired' aka fired... but he still teaches there part time.. apparently im popular, as people frequently say 'dont hit me like you did HC'

MEE!!!

I saw it in London in March it was AMAZING! But I didn't like the changes they made... I would prefer to see it on Broadway! Obviously I've seen the film a million times...

Really?! I had no idea that there was a production on in London at the moment. Who was running it? Did it have anything to do with Andy Stott this time around?

William Baker and Steve Anderson... Well it was a six month run, it's over now.

They supposedly "got rid of the grunge and guitars" to bring it into the 21st century which panicked me a bit - I liked the way it was before... but they didn't change much - it was pretty good really.

Musicals aren't camp! Take Avenue Q for example...

ok, musicals are camp, but so what biggrin.gif
pianist5000
I love musicals!

I've seen: Starlight Express, Cats, Le Mis, We Will Rock You (original cast - Kerry Ellis, Sharon D Clarke), Joseph (not the Lee Mead one), The Lion King, Chicago, Lord Of The Rings, Wicked and Avenue Q happy.gif

Favourites have to be, LOTR for the stage effects, Avenue Q for the puppets laugh.gif, the storyline and the music and Wicked, well I just love everything about Wicked happy.gif

I saw it in April and am going back in December and possibly again in the summer happy.gif

Oh yes! I played 1st guitar in a production of WWRY. Such a fun show to do.
pianist5000
happy.gif I'm going to buy the soundtrack when I have the money, mainly because of Kerry & Sharon but there you go rolleyes.gif

So yes, planning on doing Wicked again in the summer and December for the comeback date and then WWRY at Easter.

I'd really like to see Whistle Down The Wind but it's touring america at the moment dry.gif Same goes for Miss Siagon.

Are there any LOTR fans in here? I seem to be the only person I know who absolutley adored it happy.gif
DaisyChain
One of my favourites is Blood Brothers, which I believe is still running in London.

Also enjoyed Les Mis, Lion King, Mama Mia etc.

A total disaster (IMO) was Whistle Down The Wind by Lloyd Webber...a great film completely changed for the stage version. mad.gif
pianist5000
^^^ I've heard some good things about it, and I love the songs but it's not in England so I can't see it rolleyes.gif

I'll have a look for the film...

Panthera
I love musicals too. I think I've seen every show out there; I'm in NY like once a year for work so got to see the newer ones as well (like Legally Blonde -- which I don't like, btw) My recent favourites are Avenue Q and Wicked (seen both the original NY cast and the London production for both...)

Ooo I went to see the pyjama game last year (was alright). My friend is playing in a production of Goodbye girl in a months time so I will probably go see that too smile.gif

I want to go see Spamalot biggrin.gif The soundtrack sounds hilarious
pianist5000
Oh yeah, Spamalot - forgot about that!

My friend went and he said they find the Holy Grail in the audience laugh.gif

I've played the violin in Les Mis, it was so good! Another group in my area is doing it again in October and i really really wanted to play, but i'm going to be at uni sad.gif

Has anybody heard the orchestral version of No-one But You (We Will Rock You) with Kerry Ellis??? It's amazing!! smile.gif xxx
musicfreak
Joseph... wub.gif
Last year it was the second best week of my life - amazing.
Devil_Fiddler
I'm fairly obsessed... but then I seem to be fairly obsessed with many things tongue.gif

I've been involved in school productions of Joseph, Little Shop of Horrors and Our Day Out, all of which I like, though I think I was a little too young to really appreciate LSoH when we did it smile.gif

One of my friends is in a (very good) amateur operatic society, so I go to see most of his performances. Recently they've done My Fair Lady (one of my favourites), Iolanthe (which I liked more than I thought I would) and Titanic.
Titanic is now, I think, my all-time favourite musical. I was a bit dubious about it when I found out they were doing it and there were lots of jokes about cardboard cut-out ice-bergs and large blue sheets rolleyes.gif , but it was sensative, respectful and extremely moving, I cried practically the whole way through. There's never been a professional production of it in the UK, which is a real shame. I really urge anyone who gets the chance to see it to do so smile.gif

My friend sent me quite a lot of the Rent soundtrack recently, which I've been listening to and really liking, hoping to get my hands on the film some time soon biggrin.gif

Also like Les Mis, Phantom, Evita and many others that escape me right now rolleyes.gif

Yes! I absolutely love her voice! Have you heard her singing I Dreamed A Dream? The Video is on YouTube somewhere - it's the best version I've ever heard happy.gif
