Interesting! It wanders very far from the original doesn't it...would be interesting to see what someone would do if they stuck more closely to Bach's work.

I really envy the ability to improvise though and to use such juicy chords!

Did you think the very low bass notes sounded a little odd? Very hollow or something...

So he can do that, but he can't play the ornaments correctly...?

Thank goodness for that is my first thought!

Brilliantly inventive, but he managed to produce some very ugly qualities of tone from the poor piano.

Or Gabriela Montero - fine classical pianist with a great ability to improvise.

An interesting theory - but if that is the case why has it not affected the video of Dinoru Varsi playing Scriabine Op 8 No 12? - an exceptionally beautiful example of how the piano should be played

I'd have to differ, I'm afraid. I thought the piano sounded a bit thin and tinny, though the bass didn't sound as "off" as in the original. The playing, given the limitations of YouTube, was sublime.

For sheer bravura I'm currently gorging on this:
