AnotherPianist

This topic is inspired by a PM I got recently enquiring whether I was male or female... There are quite a few ambiguous names here (mine included) and sometimes, quite understandably, people make mistakes referring to people as 'she' when they are 'he' or 'he' when they are 'she'. So the question is if you have an ambiguous name (or even if you don't and just want to post!) are you a he or a she? We might get some interesting suprises.
I'll start, I'm female.
I know it's a rather frivolous topic but it makes it easier to refer to people in posts (and if we're allowed one about where people live, why not gender...). If you don't want to say because you believe it doesn't matter feel free not to; but please don't turn this into an argument about it not mattering and saying that it's not necessary to know to speak to people, I know it's not, there's nothing philosophical about this topic it's simply for interest and mainly for the purpose of knowing whether to write she or he!

And I'm a she ......... and before you say well I guessed that ! remember that nothing is obvious on the internet, and people can be anything they want to be.

I'm a she - and guess what, I thought of AnotherPianist as male and Tannie as female (subsequently discovered to be male - I think!) so I wonder why that is? Some posters have referred to spouses etc, so clues are usually given somewhere along the line...

It's interesting to see that so many people thought that I was male; don't worry, I'm not offended! I think that there are a few people I have made assumptions about and don't actually know yet so we'll see if I turn out to be correct... (I shall not name them incase they don't want to say).

It's funny how Fred should be female and Freda male!
I always thought of AnotherPianist as male and Tannie as female too!
I'm female, by the way, as everybody should assume from my name anyway!

From "The Creative Personality" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in Psychology Today:
| QUOTE |
Creative people, to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping. When tests of masculinity/femininity are given to young people, over and over one finds that creative and talented girls are more dominant and tough than other girls, and creative boys are more sensitive and less aggressive than their male peers. [...] Creative individuals are more likely to have not only the strengths of their own gender but those of the other one, too.
|
From "Testosterone and musical talent" by M. Hassler in Exp Clin Endocrinol. 1991;98(2):89-98.
| QUOTE |
Two recently published hypotheses on the biological basis of special talents are discussed in relation to experimental data obtained from musical composers, instrumentalists, painters, and non-musicians, and from adolescent boys and girls with different levels of musical capacities. [...] Creative musical behavior was associated with very low testosterone values in males, and with high testosterone levels in females. |
