You'll need to PM the mods. You have to de-register with this name, before using another.

Should be fixable through an admin console or with a quick bit of SQL by an administrator, shouldn't be any need to de-register - you should be able to keep post count and everything

There is a chance you won't have to de-register - a couple of people on the forum are onto their second usernames without deregistering.

I have thought about changing mine of late. When I was younger and secluded from the world, (i.e. when I joined these forums!) I could be certain of no-one placing me. Now I'm older, and been a member for long enough that there is quite a lot of details about my life on here, it becomes a bit more of an issue. In addition my network of aquaintances has spread wider and wider, leaving me pretty certain (in some cases) that I'm only 1 or 2 people away from knowing other forumites in reality. (You'd never guess who you are though! )

I think its a bit too late now though. You'd still all know my real name! Its difficult to judge what level of annonymity is necessary ...

This is why I always use a pseudonym It's far too easy to find a lot of detail about a person with very little information these days.

It wasn't such an issue when I joined though... no Forum Cafe back then for a start, so we didn't tend to chat about random events in our lives, and much much fewer members. (I can't believe over 50,000 people have joined since I did...)

Fortunately, most of my very early posts appear to have been long eaten by the great crash of whenever it was. I hope...

I'm not sure I want to be memorable!!! I might live with it for a while, or atleast until it annoys me to sign in!

Tamsin- I did think of using my name but I think someone already had it. It also worried me that one of my students or parents might find me and think I was talking about them in detail to the world.

Yeah this is an issue. I think as long as you don't say anything that could be misconstrued as an insult/attack it's fine.
