Hi all. I thought it might be an idea now ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall have new brass syllabuses for people to maybe share some favourites (and get the Viva Brass busier!) biggrin.gif

For me it has to be Napoli in AB grade 8. Brings back some great memories of playing it in a brass band years ago smile.gif

One of my trombone pupils is currently trying out lots of the Grade 2 trombone pieces and his absolute favourite so far is Eastenders... which I found really surprising because he doesn't strike me as being a boy who watches Eastenders! In the past, he's only wanted to play themes from the classical repertoire and anything "poppy" or jazz-like or TV themes, he hasn't enjoyed. But now he LOVES Eastenders!

I also find it amusing that Bluebells of Scotland is on the Grade 2 syllabus... although obviously not the famous arrangement with all the variations!!!

Dunno about favourite pieces that should be on there but I think some proper jazz pieces will be good and maybe a few more concerto type pieces =]

I guess one of the reasons is that he can play it and his mates recognise it!! I love the Easy winners book that comes from though. some great recognisible and reasonably easy tunes that kids seem to like to play. Just helped a friends son with his grade 3 Trinity guildhall exam who played the James Bond theme..... again very popular!

I must admit that I am struggling with the new Trumpet/Trombone syllabi.

As a horn player I don't know the repertoires as well as my own, and they are so vastly different from the previous syllabus that I have found all the tpt/trb music I have is completely redundant now (which makes me furious as I had invested a fair bit of money in buying the music). Now I am flying blind asking kids to buy pieces of music that I don't know hoping that they are suitable - many shops don't seem to have them in so I can't browse them and I can't afford to buy all the music for both instruments (especially if it's going to change again in a few years!).

In fact, none of my local music shops even have the new brass syllabus in!

Can anybody recommend a good Grade 6 trumpet list B piece? I am looking for something quick to contrast the slow movement of the Haydn. Anybody know what "Jigaudon" by John McCabe or "Whodunnit - Suite for Trumpet" is like?

I would suggest the Larsson concertino for trumpet to contrast the haydn as it is going to be re-useable in the future for competitions etc.

I am liking the Gibbons as a new addition to list A G6 tpt too and the Rusalka's song to the moon for list B (this has been on the TG list for a few years now and really suits players with a rich round sound on cornet)

'Jigaudon' isn't too bad. The range is friendly and consistant with the grade.

I too am finding my feet a bit with the new syllabus and am also finding that shops are slow to stock up.
