Those who did/are doing teaching diplomas, did you have a teacher? If so, what sort of teacher did you go to? I am in a new city miles away from anyone I know in the (civilian) music world and just wouldn't know where to look for a teacher if I need one. I am a bit daunted to try to prepare for a teaching syllabus on my own, but how do you even start looking for someone to teach you to teach, not to teach you to play? If you prepared on your own, how did you go about that? I do have teaching experience in other subjects (I am a primary school teacher) but not instrumentally.

I did mine while I was at Trinity, and also had some help from my singing professor, who is still my mentor for my teaching (as well as practical) today.

I had a teacher who was a working pianist and a teacher and had also been an examiner for the LRSM in teaching. It was sheer luck that I found him, but it was the best preparation I could have had.
