Do people out there enjoy one musical period over another??
Personally, I prefer the really rich harmonies of the romantic period, but would be interested to see what other people think!

PS: (sorry if I missed any out!) Post a reply if you have any further comments!! tongue.gif

I think all types of music are lovely, but classical is the best, I think. My favoutite piece is Canon in D major, by Pachelbel.

I like baroque. I like it especially on flute and I just love the progressions, it makes it a whole lot more interesting. Sometimes some classical pieces can seem like they're going no where if that makes scense. I'm not explaining myself well...

I also play the flute, and really dig way the baroque chord progression thing really works, but I have to say, that all that passage work is soooo fiendishly difficult, esp. on the piano. (but once you've got round that....) tongue.gif

Defenitely baroque for me!
Polyphonic music is just sooooo GOOD!
I am just so bad at playing modern music pieces.

I'd say that Baroque or Romantic music wins for me, Classical - not so great

Some modern music just seems like random notes that happened by accident to me

lol to leasalonga. I admire most music but especially romance. I also think the music from the renaissance is brilliant!

I'd have to say baroque to be loyal to my instrument.

smile.gif although i'm partial to a bit of everything, I'd have to say, modern, because in there you have the expressive music, such as jazz and modern classical, Britten, John Williams, and the performers of these, Aled Jones, Myleene Klass, and the music as an art form, such as minimalism and serialism, though I do love Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata!

I like all of the musical period except the early- and mid-Romantic period, c. 1820s-1880s

Edit: When I said modern music I didn't think of all types of Modern Music... I mean the 'experimental' kind... I think you'll understand what I mean when I say music that isn'y going anywhere just kind of moving from one random sounding note to another... lol. I recently got a modern flute book which is rather strange and I don't like it al all... it's full of weird sounding accidentals (sp?) and trills. HOwever, I am a great musical theatre fan and a lot of that music is modern, also Jazz (have any flute players played any Jazz by Russel Stokes?? I just love the Jazz Singles book!) so I wouldn't say I don't like all modern music now that i think about it... I guess one advantage of "weird" modern music is that nobody can tell if you've gone wrong...
