Im looking at buying my own cornet. I am currently playing a Yamaha Maestro and was thinking of going for a Besson Sovereign. Which one is better to go for??

Hiya

Both are very good. I have had Yamaha trumpets and a soprano cornet which I loved but have also played Bessons. My personal preference now is the Bessons as I very much dislike the Xeno range.

I would suggest going to a brass specialist shop and spending time trying them out. Bring your music and really try out some repertoire (use your usual mouthpiece though so you know it's the instrument making the difference rather than the mouthpiece smile.gif

I did that with my Yamaha sop, spent two hours in a practice room which meant I could not leave the shop without it biggrin.gif (and I only went in for a mouthpiece) blush.gif

Hi Billyboy.

No, not been brass banding for a while. Have some friends off to Torquay tomorrow :-)
